Requirements
  • An Associate or Diploma degree in nursing is accepted, with nurses hired on or after July 1, 2013 required to enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and successfully obtain the degree within four years of the hire or reclassification date.
  • At least one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for taking patient vitals, administering injections, and conducting physical exams.
  • Ability to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
  • Visual acuity and color perception sufficient to read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
  • Auditory ability to communicate with patients and colleagues and perceive alarms or patient instructions.
  • Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of patient care, including long shifts and stressful situations.
  • Mobility to navigate clinical environments.
  • Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions in accordance with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment while ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in a professional practice model, shared governance, peer review, professional development, and promotion of leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Apply effective team skills, autonomous practice, accountability, and critical thinking.
  • Coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through care management principles.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
Desired Qualifications
