Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in the mechanical piping trade, or 3 years of mechanical piping design experience using AutoCAD 2014 or higher and three-dimensional drafting packages.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural construction documents.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Develop accurate, constructible, coordinated, and timely mechanical piping system models in accordance with company drafting standards and architectural, structural, and trade coordination requirements.
  • Use company computer-aided design standards to create mechanical piping models consistent with company and project requirements.
  • Model mechanical piping systems in compliance with project plans, specifications, and code requirements to produce fabrication documents, including spool sheets and drawings.
  • Coordinate mechanical piping systems with ductwork, mechanical equipment, other trades, and architectural and structural building elements.
  • Coordinate mechanical piping to provide safe and adequate access according to manufacturer and code clearances and avoid field installation conflicts.
  • Work with the fabrication team to provide annotated and dimensioned shop drawings, spool assemblies, and spool drawings.
  • Review and distribute fabrication information, including assembly sheets and spool drawings, to project managers and field leaders.
  • Communicate challenges and schedule progress proactively and at least weekly with project managers, project engineers, and field foremen during drafting and construction.
  • Use company tools to manage requests for information and shop drawing progress.
  • Identify and communicate project deficiencies and gaps with proposed solutions to support timely completion of work.
  • Work with the project manager and field foreman to create as-built condition drawings.
  • Produce documents on time and within estimated drafting hours and project budget to meet customer commitments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with mechanical piping drafting using Autodesk Fabrication CADmep software.
  • Ability to lay out and size mechanical piping and perform similar activities.
  • A two-year associate degree in drafting or a similar area.
  • Ability to visualize three-dimensional layouts from two-dimensional drawings.
