Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school, or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting, is required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification is required.
  • If hired after January 1, 2015, current certification by an accepted Medical Assistant certifying or registering agency is required within six months of hire.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in the assigned department or unit.
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Remain accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Communicate professionally with patients and family members.
  • Collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
  • Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
  • Assist the physician or Advanced Practice Provider during examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in practice-specific tasks and skills.
  • Document treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department policies.
  • Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing or physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
  • Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
  • Adhere to organizational and department policies, procedures, value statements, and quality standards.
  • Follow personal and patient safety practices and infection-control standards.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable organizational policies and laws.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Indicator activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting requirements.
  • Use supplies efficiently.
  • Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
