  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to demonstrate basic math skills, including translating pounds and ounces into decimals.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Use of a hair restraint, such as a hair net or hat, is required.
  • Must wear a clean uniform and name tag at all times.
  • Must consistently use cut gloves and safely use knives.
  • Must utilize poly or production gloves at all times to ensure food safety.
  • Must wear slip-resistant shoes at all times.
  • Must be able to determine spoiled or damaged product.
  • Must be able to work with sharp knives, slicers, box cutters, and related equipment with attention to detail.
  • Must be in good standing and not on a performance improvement plan or active discipline for internal applications.
  • If invited for an interview, internal candidates must have manager approval based on performance.
Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly and courteous service to customers in person and on the phone.
  • Maintain a positive work environment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area, equipment, deli cases, and backroom according to food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Follow personal hygiene requirements, time and temperature controls, food handling practices, and sanitation principles.
  • Safely lift up to 50 pounds and follow safe lifting procedures.
  • Wear provided personal protective equipment when required, including cut gloves and chemical goggles or gloves.
  • Safely operate powered equipment after proper training.
  • Follow safe handling procedures for knives and other sharp utensils.
  • Slice and weigh lunch meats and cheeses, allowing customers to approve slice thickness before completing orders.
  • Use product knowledge, suggestive selling, and product sampling to answer customer questions and support product-related decisions.
  • Fill, rotate, and date products for the display case.
  • Operate meat and cheese slicers, scales, and wrapping equipment.
  • Use cooking equipment, including fryers, rotisserie ovens, and steamers, and fry chicken properly.
  • Prepare sandwiches, party trays, salads, and special orders according to company recipes.
  • Pull products from cases for proper storage at closing, including filling, rotating, and wrapping.
  • Ensure food freshness and proper product rotation; assist with production, packaging, presentation, and restocking.
  • Multitask while keeping the customer as the first priority.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Follow safety, health, and weights and measures regulations; observe temperatures in coolers and cases and report failures to management.
  • Answer the phone and take special orders courteously.
  • Perform bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching into display cases, repetitive arm and hand movements, and standing and walking during four- to eight-hour shifts.
  • Complete training before the first scheduled workday in the store.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Food preparation experience is a plus.
  • A minimum of six months of employment with Schnucks is preferred for store or facility teammates.
  • A minimum of one year of employment with Schnucks is preferred for Store Support Center teammates.
