Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, physical anthropology or a related degree.
  • 1-2 years relevant collection management experience.
  • Expert oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain occupational health clearance for respirator use.
  • Ability to work in confined collections storage areas and use basic materials handling equipment such as ladders, pallet jacks, and lifts.
  • Excellent object handling skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assists collections specialists and registration staff in day-to-day collections management projects and special projects.
  • Capable of carrying out inventory, cataloging, and organization of museum objects, specimens, and archives in accordance with best-practice museum standards of care.
  • Assists in preservation and maintenance activities of a range of archival and object types such as glass, paper, artifacts, skeletal, and wet tissue collections.
  • Assist collections specialists in fulfilling research requests for inventories, data, and images.
  • Assists researchers in accessing materials, setting up equipment, and facilitates use of collections materials.
  • Receives OSHA required annual physical for non-lab-based collections staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with natural history or anatomical collections.
  • Experience with museum collections databases, especially KE Emu software.
  • Experience completing or supporting large scale inventory projects.
  • Master’s degree in museum studies, history, physical anthropology, or a related degree.
