Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental, waste management, chemical, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in hazardous waste, waste management, engineering, environmental work, or hazardous waste compliance is required.
  • A 40-hour HAZWOPER qualification is required.
  • Excellent communication, training, technical writing, and stakeholder engagement skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard safety documentation and reporting practices is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • The candidate must have a hazardous waste background, including familiarity with Washington Dangerous Waste regulations.
  • The candidate must be familiar with related records, including manifests, hazardous waste invoices, and material safety data documentation.
  • The candidate must be able to conduct walking inspections of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act accumulation and satellite areas.
  • The candidate must be able to document and photograph areas of concern and develop professional emails conveying desired mitigation.
  • The candidate must be able to conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures are implemented.
  • The candidate must have reasonable computer skills, including data entry, email, and the ability to learn the client's internal database and programs.
  • The candidate must be able to work as part of a team with the client's environmental employees dedicated to hazardous waste compliance.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and execute technical projects with minimal supervision.
  • The candidate must respond quickly to emergencies and meet customer needs on a timely basis.
Responsibilities
  • Provide hazardous waste and environmental safety expertise to support a national aerospace manufacturer's site-wide hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations.
  • Assist environmental, engineering, maintenance, leadership, and environmental health and safety stakeholders with closing hazardous waste and compliance gaps and supporting day-to-day operations.
  • Support the Factory Dust Disposal Project through sampling and tracking locations and disposal requests.
  • Conduct site inspections for small quantity generators.
  • Support the Land Disposal Restrictions review and update project.
  • Update battery collection locations with hazardous materials information.
  • Compile and organize Resource Conservation and Recovery Act inspection forms.
  • Review and approve invoices.
  • Help develop a mini training program on hazardous materials environmental compliance and site policies.
  • Visit crew meetings to train individuals or very small groups on policies, program aspects, and compliance.
  • Meet annually established goals for personally generated revenue and utilization percentage.
  • Meet annually established customer satisfaction goals.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development as agreed with the Business Unit Manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Department of Transportation training is desirable, but not required; the role is not expected to sign manifests.
  • The ability to give small presentations is desirable, but not required.
  • OSHA 30 is desired.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager certification is desired.
  • Certified Professional in Waste Management certification is desired.
  • Hazardous Waste Management Specialist certification is desired.
