  • Familiarity with photo editing programs, such as Photoshop and Photo Mechanic
  • Knowledge of photojournalism and documentary photography
  • Social media savviness, from X to Instagram
  • Basic coding skills are a plus
  • Dedication to high journalistic standards
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills
  • Completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional media organization or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer
Responsibilities
  • Go on news and portraiture assignments for the WSJ team
  • Think creatively and produce visual narratives for complex stories
  • File quickly with accurate captions
  • Produce and build visual assets for news stories and enterprise content
  • Anticipate photographic needs as stories develop
  • Deliver photos for breaking news and live news coverage
  • Conduct social media research
  • Assign freelance work
  • Build stories in our CMS
  • Conduct research using various photo wire agencies
  • Collaborate with other photo editors, visual colleagues, reporters and editors across the newsroom
  • Pitch visually innovative and original approaches to stories
  • Collaborate with the audience and platform teams on social strategy and distribution of WSJ content
