Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of 6 months of clinical classroom experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop empathetic long-term relationships with patients, families, and colleagues while contributing to patient care, practice goals, and organizational goals.
  • Assist patients throughout their visits by facilitating timely flow, communicating delays, engaging with visit reasons, updating medication and allergy lists, reviewing screening questions, and acting as a liaison between patients and practice staff.
  • Provide clear patient and team communication and hand off relevant visit information to the provider.
  • Perform medical assisting duties under proper supervision, including obtaining vital signs, height, and weight; performing electrocardiograms and point-of-care testing; conducting phlebotomy; administering immunizations when qualified; and assisting with routine procedures.
  • Lead outreach and health-coaching conversations to support quality and population-health goals, monitor practice activity, identify patients with health-maintenance or chronic-disease-management needs, and gather related data.
  • Monitor, order, and maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean, sterilized, stocked, unexpired, and accessible.
  • Use the electronic health record system to queue prescription renewals, add medications for provider review, enter or scribe clinician-directed orders, and document completed tasks for billing.
  • Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests and verify insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications.
  • Identify Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance issues, maintain patient-safety practices, report adverse events and near misses, and use protected health information only for treatment, payment, and operations.

  • 0-1 years of related work experience or customer service-related experience in any field.
  • Graduation from the Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care Clinical Assistant Training program, an Emergency Medical Technician Basic license, a Phlebotomy Certificate, or other healthcare training.
