Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Animal Science, Poultry Science, Microbiology, Meat Science, or another relevant discipline is required.
  • At least three years of internal experience as a Quality Assurance Supervisor or at least two years of equivalent external experience as a Quality Assurance Manager in a food processing or manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience in the meat processing or poultry industry is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including policy adherence, conflict resolution, and efficiently and effectively resolving issues, is required.
  • Working knowledge of poultry processing, food safety regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines, Good Manufacturing Practices, PVP, Animal Welfare, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points is required.
  • Knowledge of food safety database systems such as Safety Chain is required.
  • Knowledge of ingredient interactions and allergens may be required.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with organizational skills and attention to detail is required.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, with all levels of the organization and with regulatory officials and vendors is required.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements is required.
  • The ability to adapt to changing priorities, maintain a productive and committed work effort, meet deadlines, and manage workload is required.
  • The ability to work non-standard shifts, including holidays, weekends, and extended shifts, to meet business needs is required.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Quality Assurance department throughout the plant, providing guidance to supervisors and ensuring effective product and process monitoring, testing, validation, and controls comply with company, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • Implement and oversee quality system implementations and updates to ensure adherence to product specifications, Good Manufacturing Practices, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points requirements, while maintaining accurate records and documentation according to customer requirements.
  • Partner with internal departments to investigate and perform root cause analysis for customer complaints and nonconformances, and communicate findings to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform or review periodic audits of recall systems, incoming raw materials, in-process controls, and finished-goods testing, and provide feedback on improvement opportunities.
  • Review documentation and reports for accuracy, identify trends, communicate corrective actions, and follow up to ensure corrective actions are implemented to mitigate future risk.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, develop continuous-improvement programs and processes, and lead or participate in implementing improvements.
  • Develop quality, food safety, and customer requirements and create or provide capital spending plans related to quality and food safety.
  • Mentor, coach, train, and cross-train employees, encourage career development, and provide consistent feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Act as liaison between regulatory bodies such as the United States Department of Agriculture and major customers supplied from multiple company locations, facilitating communication and addressing issues.
  • Participate in or lead Quality Assurance meetings and projects as part of personal and professional development.
  • Follow and ensure others follow department safety policies and procedures.
  • Direct the Quality Assurance department through subordinate superintendents and/or supervisors as a leader of people, with responsibility for delegation, planning, customer focus, and conflict management.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.
