Learn the strengths of each platform and choose the right search engine for your needs. Meilisearch and Manticore Search are among the best full-text search engines around, great for your high-performance, scalable needs. However, chances are that only one of these solutions will be the right one for you. Choosing between the two is about finding the search engine that fits your needs, team, and growth plans. This means comparing their use cases, features, pricing, and more to help you make a confident choice. In this guide, Meilisearch'll introduce both tools, highlight their key features, and discuss real-world use cases that show what makes each stand out. You'll also get a clear look at pricing and weighing the pros and cons of both. What is Meilisearch? Meilisearch is an open-source search engine built for flexibility and speed, outperforming Elasticsearch in many cases. It delivers fast, typo-tolerant results in less than 50 milliseconds, making it appealing for web and mobile applications. With minimal configuration, developers can get up and running faster while still benefiting from features such as relevance tuning, filtering, and multilingual support. Best for: Startups, small- to medium-sized projects, and teams prioritizing rapid implementation and user-friendly search experiences. Meilisearch: pros and cons. Before choosing a search solution, it helps to look beyond feature lists and see how a tool performs in the real world. Here's how Meilisearch performs, based on real user feedback from platforms like G2. Meilisearch pros. * Easy to use: Users often comment that Meilisearch is easy to use, and the setup process is pretty straightforward, saving them a lot of time. * Responsive customer support: Support is very responsive, and users generally have a good experience with the team, noting they're quick to respond and helpful. * Seamless integrations: Reviewers value Meilisearch's integrations, which positively impact the developer experience. Meilisearch cons. * Limited advanced features: Some users noted that Meilisearch could be more sophisticated, with additional features such as index management. * Cost issues: Recent pricing changes have users concerned, saying it might not feel cost-effective for those with large indexes but lower usage. * Limited number of query words: A search query must involve no more than ten words; any more will be ignored. What is Manticore Search? Manticore Search is an open-source search engine built as a continuation of Sphinx, improving its functionality with full-text search and real-time analytics. Combining traditional SQL-like querying with powerful search, it's a flexible option for developers who need more control over indexing and ranking algorithms. Best for: Large-scale projects and teams that need advanced customization, SQL familiarity, and high-performance querying at scale. Manticore Search: pros and cons. Manticore is a powerful and flexible solution but it does come with a few disadvantages. Manticore pros. * Advanced customization: Offers deep control over ranking, filtering, and search behavior. * SQL-like querying: Familiar syntax for developers with database experience, simplifying adoption and complex queries. * Real-time indexing: Enables fast data updates without significant delays. Manticore cons. * Steep learning curve: Manticore Search is more challenging for beginners compared to other tools. * Complex setup: Initial configuration and tuning can be time-consuming. * Documentation gaps: Some users find resources harder to navigate and less beginner-friendly. What are the use cases of Meilisearch and Manticore Search? Meilisearch is used for fast, user-facing search experiences where simplicity, typo tolerance, and quick implementation matter most. Meanwhile, Manticore is primarily used for complex, large-scale search and analytics workloads that require high performance and deep customization. This table will clarify the differences between the two: This breakdown highlights the distinction between the two tools. Meilisearch prioritizes simplicity and efficient search, while Manticore focuses on power and scale for more demanding systems. What are the key features of Meilisearch and Manticore Search? When comparing Meilisearch and Manticore Search, the difference comes down to the features they provide. Both offer robust search capabilities, but they prioritize very different developer and product needs. Meilisearch features. Meilisearch focuses on delivering an out-of-the-box user search experience, making it attractive for teams that want fast results with minimal setup: * Instant, typo-tolerant search: Offers a highly relevant search functionality that scales with your needs. Delivers relevant search results quickly, even with misspelled words. * Vector and hybrid search: Meilisearch's AI-powered hybrid search combines best-in-class full-text and semantic search features to create a top-notch search experience. Meanwhile, Meilisearch's vector search helps you enhance applications for image, video, and audio search, product recommendations for e-commerce platforms, and intuitive Q&A interactions. Vector search improves relevance in search results, provides more personalized user experiences, and handles all unstructured data. * Zero-config relevance tuning: Smart defaults mean you get high-quality search results without too much manual tweaking. Beyond these, Meilisearch offers built-in features like synonyms, faceted search, and ranking rules that are easy to configure. Its lightweight architecture and quick deployment make it ideal for rapid prototyping and production use alike. Manticore Search features. Manticore is mostly designed for advanced use cases where flexibility and performance at scale are critical: * SQL-like query language: Enables complex queries using familiar syntax. * Real-time indexing: Supports fast ingestion and querying of continuously updating data. * Distributed architecture: Handles large datasets and scales across multiple nodes. In addition, Manticore offers advanced full-text search capabilities, granular control over ranking, and support for complex filtering and aggregations, making it a strong choice for data-heavy environments. Overall, Meilisearch wins over Manticore in ease of use, onboarding speed, and delivering a polished search experience without requiring deep expertise. How much do Meilisearch and Manticore Search cost? While both tools are open-source at their core, their cost structures diverge when you consider hosting, scalability, and managed services. Meilisearch pricing. Meilisearch follows a freemium plus managed cloud model, giving teams the flexibility they need to meet their goals: * Open-source (self-hosted): Free to use, with full core features. Ideal for developers who want complete control. * Cloud (usage-based): Starts at $30/month; useful for teams that want simple pricing to launch fast. * Cloud (resource-based plans): For apps that need dedicated performance at any scale, this plan starts at $23/month. * Enterprise: Custom pricing with dedicated infrastructure, SLA, and compliance features. Manticore pricing. Manticore takes a more traditional approach, with fewer built-in paid tiers: * Open-source: Completely free to use and self-host, with no licensing fees. * Managed/cloud options: Available via third-party providers or custom setups, so costs vary by infrastructure. * Enterprise support: Optional paid support or consulting, depending on the vendor and deployment. Manticore's costs are mostly tied to infrastructure (servers, storage, DevOps time) rather than per-query pricing, whereas Meilisearch is typically driven by search volume, stored documents, and infrastructure usage. What kind of API client libraries do Meilisearch and Manticore Search have? When it comes to integrations, both Meilisearch and Manticore offer a solid range of SDKs and APIs. In short, Meilisearch provides official SDKs and REST APIs designed for quick integration, while Manticore offers a wide range of clients, making it versatile for optimizing complex systems. Meilisearch stands out with its modern SDK ecosystem and ease of integration. Manticore, however, excels in backend flexibility, offering more language coverage for enterprise environments. Meilisearch vs Manticore: How to make the right choice? If you're building a user-facing application, then Meilisearch is a better starting point. Its ease of implementation, instant search capabilities, and minimal configuration let teams ship quickly without deep search expertise. On the other hand, Manticore is better suited to applications that handle large datasets or analytics-heavy workloads. Why Meilisearch stands out for teams that need fast, flexible search. Meilisearch allows teams to launch quickly without deep expertise, thanks to its instant, typo-tolerant search and zero-config setup. Its clear APIs, fast performance, and built-in relevance tuning make it ideal for delivering polished search experiences with minimal effort. Maya shin. Head of Marketing @ Meilisearch

Elastic faces investor investigation following workforce reduction and executive exit.

Elastic faces investor investigation following workforce reduction and executive exit. Elastic N.V. is facing increased investor scrutiny after shareholder rights law firm Pomerantz LLP announced an investigation into whether the enterprise search and observability software provider or certain executives may have violated U.S. securities laws. The announcement follows Elastic's disclosure of a 7% workforce reduction and the planned departure of its Chief Product Officer, developments that contributed to an 8.7% decline in the company's share price. Enterprise software company Elastic N.V. (NYSE: ESTC) has become the subject of a shareholder investigation after Pomerantz LLP announced it is reviewing whether the company and certain executives engaged in potential securities fraud or other unlawful business practices. The investigation follows a series of corporate announcements disclosed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on June 24, 2026, including a workforce reduction affecting approximately 7% of employees and the resignation of Chief Product Officer Ken Exner, effective July 17. While the announcement of an investigation does not indicate wrongdoing or establish liability, it signals growing legal scrutiny after a sharp market reaction to the company's restructuring plans. Elastic said the workforce reduction is part of a broader organizational initiative aimed at simplifying internal structures, improving decision-making, reallocating resources toward strategic growth areas, and strengthening capabilities needed for long-term expansion. The company expects to record between $22 million and $25 million in one-time cash charges associated with the restructuring, primarily related to employee severance and termination benefits. On the day following the announcement, Elastic shares fell 8.7%, closing at $53.60, reflecting investor concerns over the restructuring and executive leadership changes. Why investors are paying attention. Although workforce reductions have become increasingly common across the technology sector over the past several years, investors often view simultaneous layoffs and senior executive departures as indicators of broader strategic or operational challenges. For public companies, these announcements can prompt shareholder investigations when investors believe previously disclosed business conditions, financial outlooks, or operational risks may warrant closer examination. Pomerantz LLP stated that it is investigating whether Elastic or certain officers and directors made materially misleading statements or omitted information that could constitute violations of federal securities laws. At this stage, the firm has announced only an investigation and has not filed a lawsuit or alleged that misconduct has been proven. Shareholder investigations frequently serve as preliminary reviews that determine whether sufficient evidence exists to pursue securities litigation on behalf of investors. Restructuring reflects broader enterprise software trends. Elastic's restructuring comes amid continued cost optimization efforts across the enterprise software industry. Many technology companies have been reevaluating operating expenses following several years of rapid hiring during the pandemic-era expansion of cloud computing and digital transformation initiatives. Organizations across software infrastructure, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud services have increasingly focused on improving operational efficiency while prioritizing investment in higher-growth product segments. Elastic develops enterprise search, observability, and cybersecurity solutions built around the Elastic Search AI Platform, serving customers that manage large volumes of operational, security, and application data. Its products compete with offerings from companies including Microsoft, Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Datadog, Splunk (Cisco), and Dynatrace across observability, log analytics, security analytics, and AI-powered search. The departure of a chief product executive may also attract additional investor attention because product leadership plays a central role in enterprise software innovation, roadmap execution, and competitive positioning - particularly as vendors accelerate investments in generative AI and machine learning capabilities. Enterprise implications. For enterprise customers, Elastic's restructuring is unlikely to have an immediate impact on product availability or customer support. Large enterprise software vendors routinely implement organizational changes while maintaining long-term product development strategies. However, investors will likely monitor future earnings reports for updates on execution, customer demand, research and development priorities, and progress toward the company's stated growth initiatives. According to Gartner, enterprise software spending continues to rise despite macroeconomic uncertainty, with organizations prioritizing AI-enabled infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud platforms, and data analytics. Meanwhile, IDC expects observability and intelligent operations platforms to remain strategic investment areas as enterprises modernize increasingly complex IT environments. As enterprise technology companies continue balancing profitability with innovation, restructuring announcements are becoming more closely scrutinized by shareholders, regulators, and institutional investors alike. Whether Pomerantz's review ultimately develops into formal litigation remains uncertain, but the investigation underscores how corporate governance, executive transitions, and workforce decisions can quickly influence market sentiment in publicly traded technology companies. Market landscape. Technology companies continue to streamline operations while increasing investment in artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and enterprise automation. According to Gartner, worldwide enterprise IT spending remains resilient despite economic headwinds, while IDC forecasts continued growth in observability, cloud operations, and AI-driven software platforms. At the same time, shareholder activism and securities litigation remain active across public technology markets. Significant stock price declines following major corporate announcements - including restructurings, executive departures, or revised financial outlooks - often trigger investigations by shareholder rights law firms, although such investigations do not imply wrongdoing or guarantee legal action. 5W report highlights AI visibility divide among U.S. Banks as generative search reshapes financial discovery. Elastic to acquire CRV-backed DeductiveAI for up to $85M

DeductiveAI, a startup using AI to detect and resolve software bugs, has agreed to be acquired by Elastic for up to $85 million, according to a source familiar with the deal. Founded in 2023, Deductive emerged from stealth last November with a $7.5 million seed round led by CRV, valuing the company at $33 million. The startup operates in AI site reliability engineering, a fast-growing sector driven by the increase in AI-written code. The acquisition will enhance Elastic's observability platform by adding tools to automatically monitor performance and resolve system failures in real-time. Deductive was co-founded by former ThoughtSpot VP Rakesh Kothari and ex-Databricks engineer Sameer Agarwal. The startup had reached roughly $1 million in annual recurring revenue before the sale.

Elastic named a Strong Performer in Extended Detection And Response Platforms, Q2 2026.

Elastic named a Strong Performer in Extended Detection And Response Platforms, Q2 2026. June 16, 2026 Report recognizes Elastic's strong SIEM-replacement features, open data architecture, AI innovation, and endpoint protection SAN FRANCISCO-(BUSINESS WIRE)- Elastic (NYSE: ESTC), the Search AI Company, today announced that it has been named a Strong Performer in The Forrester Wave(TM): Extended Detection And Response Platforms, Q2 2026. The report recognized Elastic Security's SIEM-replacement capabilities, open data architecture, AI innovation, and endpoint protection. Access the complimentary report here. Elastic Security is an agentic security operations platform that unifies SIEM, XDR, and native automation. Elastic's native endpoint protection offers tangible efficacy against real-world attack scenarios. Elastic Security is the only vendor to achieve 14 consecutive months of 100% rates in AV-Comparatives' Malware and Real-World Protection Tests. The Forrester Wave assessment notes that Elastic's strategy envisions an open, agentic SOC that will automate operations. Elastic's vendor profile in the report states the following: * Elastic's SIEM-replacement features are strong, as it ingests a wide range of telemetry at scale, including from its endpoint agent, enabling security teams to correlate across cloud, endpoint, identity, application, and network data without siloed tools. Its open data formats and core engines, strong training content, and flexible data management make it heavily customizable. * Flexibility is a differentiator: Elastic is a good fit for organizations looking for- and that have the resources to support- a tool built for maximum flexibility across data ingestion, analytics, and AI. Security teams can ingest telemetry from virtually any source, tailor detections to their unique environment and risk profile, and build workflows aligned with existing processes rather than adapting to rigid platform constraints. Detection engineers can move faster, reduce vendor lock-in, and create security operations experiences that fit their organization. * Open, agentic SOC automates operations: Elastic demonstrates a strong commitment to innovation, with a focus on AI features, such as Attack Discovery and Automatic Migration. Attack Discovery correlates related alerts into higher-confidence attack narratives so analysts focus on real incidents rather than undifferentiated alert queues, while Automatic Migration moves dashboards and detection rules from legacy SIEMs into Elastic without rewriting rules. "We believe every security team deserves access to proven endpoint capability, regardless of budget or team size," said Mike Nichols, general manager, Security, Elastic. "This Forrester recognition validates what our customers already know: the endpoint detection included in our agentic security platform works. No separate license. No add-on. Enterprise-grade protection, accessible to everyone." Elastic Security runs on the same Elasticsearch platform as observability and search workloads, so security teams can correlate across operational and security telemetry without moving data across tools. The Elastic Security MCP App enables alert triaging, threat hunting, and case management directly within the tools analysts already use, including Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, VS Code Copilot, and Cursor.
