Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in biological sciences is required.
  • Two years of related experience are required.
  • A master's degree in biological sciences may substitute for the minimum experience requirement.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment is required.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing library preparation or other genomic techniques is required.
  • The ability to balance multiple projects and pay close attention to detail is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory management is required.
  • The ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure is required.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and administer routine laboratory functions and implement technical procedures for data collection.
  • Order laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment; maintain laboratory supply and equipment records and inventory; prepare requisitions and process vouchers.
  • Assist with reporting and cataloging records using common computer software to organize data.
  • Interact with students and department members and assist with their work as directed by the supervisor.
  • Perform mail distribution and delivery within the laboratory, department, and other campus locations.
  • Perform standard molecular genetics techniques, including DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and polymerase chain reaction.
  • Construct next-generation sequencing libraries using various methods.
  • Modify existing protocols and develop new protocols for next-generation DNA sequencing.
  • Collect and analyze field and laboratory data.
  • Prepare figures, tables, or text for reports and manuscripts submitted to granting agencies and academic journals.
  • Maintain laboratory compliance with standard operating procedures and best laboratory practices.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance functions.
  • Maintain federal and state permits associated with field work and tissue import.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in the biological sciences is preferred.
  • Two years of scientific research related to molecular biology is preferred.
