Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Critical care or Advanced Life Support as well as other certifications may be required for some Registered Nurses
  • Bronson South Haven Specific: Emergency Department SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale to be completed within 90 days of hire date
  • Bronson South Haven Specific: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC only required for full-time and part-time nurses) within 6 months of hire
  • Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital: Word Day Swing Bed CBL completion annually
  • Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for Bronson Administrative Housing
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment to set an appropriate plan of action
  • Must be able to communicate verbally, in writing and electronically
  • Standards of Practice require data collection, assessment, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharge planning
  • Standards of Professional Performance require quality improvement participation and ongoing education
  • Experience with patient education planning and coordinating discharge planning

Responsibilities
  • Manage the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay using the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation
  • Coordinate the care provided by other professionals
  • Delegate selected acts, tasks or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice to patient care assistants and universal service assistants
  • Provide selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate given the patient’s acuity and complexity
  • Document and communicate during each tour of duty the patient’s response to care, consumption of resources and anticipated needs
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patients’ health or the situation
  • Assess the patient’s physical and developmental needs
  • Analyze assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs
  • Document nursing history and age-appropriate physical/emotional needs/strengths for assigned patients
  • Review vital signs to assess condition and detect deviations from normal
  • Analyze the assessment data to determine patient problems or issues
  • Identify patient problems and confirm with patient and family when appropriate
  • Document expected outcomes and plan of care related to the problems through clinical pathway and outcome teaching record
  • Develop a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Incorporate clinical pathways into the plan when appropriate
  • Develop individualized interventions with patient input when appropriate
  • Consider data from other members of the healthcare team when developing the plan of care
  • Implement the identified plan including administering medications and treatments
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions specific to the patient’s plan
  • Maintain awareness of patient comfort and safety needs
  • Initiate a patient education plan and coordinate implementation
  • Manage the care plan for patients by organizing and delegating interventions and evaluating effectiveness
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes
  • Document patient response toward the expected outcomes
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and use results to initiate changes in nursing practice
  • Maintain professional records that provide evidence of competency and continued ongoing educational activities
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities related to appropriate knowledge and professional issues

  • Responsibilities related to the Scrub Registered Nurse: interpret procedure card, assess case cart for supplies prior to scheduled procedure, identify missing equipment, anticipate physician needs, monitor patient condition, update case information, advise on equipment usage, act as resource for circulators, assign after-hour call on rotation, perform scrub duties in multiple services (e.g., neuro and orthopedics)
