Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • 2 years of experience in a formal management position
  • 4 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Computer literacy in Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service

  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Registered Nurse license from the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) if applicable and obtained within 30 days of hire and renewed before expiration date (LA City only)
Responsibilities
  • Daily rounding with Purpose on Nurses, Medical Assistants, and Patients, promoting effective communication and working relationships within nursing areas and with physicians and other departments
  • Lead Unit Council meetings and track progress and outcomes of activities
  • Responsible for selecting and retaining qualified nursing staff to carry out the clinic’s care system in accordance with hospital philosophy, ambulatory care, and organizational objectives
  • Coordinate with Education Department and Human Resources to ensure orientation, training, and continuing education are available to staff
  • Lead recruitment and retention activities
  • Facilitate training of nursing and other clinical staff as necessary in coordination with Education Department
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to students
  • Expose understanding of governing regulations, Title 22, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requirements, and maintain standards of nursing practice consistent with hospital standards
  • Contribute to development and implementation of a unit-based performance improvement program compliant with JCAHO, Title 22, and other regulatory agencies
  • Participate in establishing systems within departments to support shared governance management philosophy
  • Contribute to development of customer service standards and expectations; communicate staff roles in maintaining a high-performing unit and the outcomes of quality monitoring; involve staff in analyzing and changing practices as necessary
  • Collect and provide to Nursing Quality the required data elements on a monthly basis
  • Ensure completion of occurrence reports and timely investigation; notify Risk Management for significant or potentially significant events
  • Coordinate and integrate department services at intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and hospital-wide levels
  • Plan for provision of services with appropriately qualified staff; establish policies and procedures to support scope of services
  • Lead PSMS initiatives and communicate PSMS scores to staff to drive necessary changes in practice
  • Use budget as a tool to improve care delivery; participate in planning and goal setting for the nursing department and unit
  • Monitor space/resource requirements and utilization of outside resources
  • Approve day-to-day deviations from staffing guidelines based on patient need
  • Ensure Optilink is up to date daily
  • Adjust staffing based on patient acuity and census within budget guidelines
  • Approve monthly schedules and advance requests for time off; approve ShiftQuest requests
  • Apply HR policy and procedures for time off and additional shift requests
  • Complete daily (Direct Staffing Report) and bi-weekly payroll activities (Kronos) on time
  • Coach and mentor charge nurses and staff; monitor progress of new hires to ensure competency and independence in a timely manner
  • Ensure 100% attendance at mandatory education and training programs; academic modules
  • Advance systems and standards that support Shared Governance, Magnet, and Just Culture
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or in progress, strongly preferred; Master’s Degree in Nursing may be in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
