  • An Associate’s Degree or equivalent technical school degree is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Five to seven years of related work experience is required.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills in a heavy manufacturing environment are required.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards and Occupational Safety and Health Administration safety regulations is required.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects of varying degrees of difficulty at one time is required.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings is required.
  • Experience with machining, welding, disassembly, and assembly of industrial equipment and components is required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to make decisions quickly are required.
  • Effective team member relationship skills are required.
  • The ability to use handheld measuring tools and instruct staff in the use of math and measuring tools is required.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate shop floor activities within the machine shop and welding teams to ensure products are produced safely, cost-effectively, and on time while meeting quality standards.
  • Lead safety-first culture and champion safety and housekeeping improvement activities and programs while proactively eliminating potential safety hazards and unsafe behavior.
  • Ensure near-miss reports, incident reports, and investigations occur in a timely manner.
  • Directly manage the activities of CNC machinists and welders.
  • Assist Engineering with scope of work, including providing details on inventory parts used during machining and welding processes.
  • Ensure safety and quality procedures are followed.
  • Manage and schedule department team members to ensure on-time delivery and efficient use of shop floor resources.
  • Approve scheduled overtime for hourly team members.
  • Review new jobs with the engineering team and departmental team members.
  • Manage required resources for emergency and non-standard jobs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of direct and indirect time.
  • Provide information for critical plant key performance indicators.
  • Monitor consumption of consumable supplies to ensure production operations meet the forecasted budget.
  • Monitor the care and condition of machines, tools, equipment, facilities, and other physical assets, and work with the Plant Manager to determine replacement or repair needs.
  • Assess, train, and coach team members as needed to improve site performance and contribution to the company’s success.
  • Enforce team member compliance with safety rules, work rules, company policies and procedures, and standards.
  • Communicate discrepancies to the appropriate management personnel.
  • Review and evaluate the performance of hourly team members within the machine shop and welding teams.
