Requirements
  • At least 5 years of relevant industry experience in power electronics, preferably in automotive or electric-vehicle charging systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing onboard chargers, bidirectional chargers, or high-voltage power conversion, including isolation topologies, power-factor-correction stages, and direct-current/direct-current conversion stages.
  • Familiarity with alternating-current/direct-current, direct-current/direct-current, and direct-current/alternating-current applications and control of variable-frequency converters.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics topologies, switching waveforms, semiconductor losses, loss modeling, device characteristics, gate-driving circuit design, thermal design, modulation schemes, and control strategies for high- and low-voltage power converters.
  • Experience selecting high-voltage power semiconductors, including silicon, silicon-carbide, and gallium-nitride metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors and diodes, and designing gate-drive and protection circuits.
  • Familiarity with PLECS, PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB/Simulink, and dSPACE.
  • Experience with advanced modulation approaches for efficient power-electronic converter designs.
  • Experience designing large state machines for complex power-converter implementations.
  • Familiarity with analog, digital, and mixed-signal design, including analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, and their use in control design.
  • Understanding of the theory and application of magnetics, including inductors and transformers, and capacitors, including electrolytic, film, and ceramic capacitors, used for power conversion.
  • Experience designing analog and digital circuits and microprocessor implementations.
  • Awareness of UL and CE electrical-safety requirements and electromagnetic-compatibility requirements relevant to power-converter design.
  • Knowledge of environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for automotive, industrial, and residential applications.
  • Ability to design systems resilient to faults and errors.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end design and development of power-electronics converters for automotive and energy-storage applications, from specification through prototyping, validation, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Architect and model new power-converter topologies to achieve superior performance and advance intellectual property in power-electronic systems.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis, simulation, and benchmarking of power-electronics designs using PLECS, PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB/Simulink, and dSPACE.
  • Drive implementation of advanced modulation techniques and control strategies for efficient and robust power-converter designs.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, printed-circuit-board layout, and firmware engineers to ensure successful design, validation, and manufacturing of power converters.
  • Mentor cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Perform schematic capture and power-converter circuit simulation, analyzing and optimizing complex designs.
  • Design analog and digital circuits, mixed-signal circuits, and microprocessor implementations for power-converter control applications.
  • Design printed-circuit-board layouts to minimize stray inductance and capacitance, optimize component placement for manufacturability, define power and signal planes, and ensure electromagnetic-compatibility compliance.
  • Use oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, and other diagnostic equipment for testing and validation.
