Requirements
  • MS degree in medical physics or similar fields from a CAMPEP accredited program
  • All junior medical physicists are required to have acquired a strong foundation in basic physics as documented by a master's in medical physics or similar fields
Responsibilities
  • Works under the supervision of the Chief Medical Physicist or designee on specification, acquisition, and commissioning of all radiation generating equipment
  • Calibrates and performs quality assurance of treatment machines using departmental protocols
  • Acquires and maintains all dosimetry and health-physics equipment
  • Reviews radiation treatment charts
  • Performs treatment plan second checks
  • Performs brachytherapy planning
  • Provides radiosurgery clinical coverage
  • Evaluates and interprets medical radiation treatment prescriptions
  • Collaborates with medical providers in the design and modification of effective radiation treatments for patients
  • Oversees and monitors treatment plans developed by Dosimetrists
  • Participates in development and execution of equipment monitoring, quality assurance, calibration, and safety surveys
  • Provides technical assistance in the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy
  • Monitors patients
  • Maintains established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety
  • Performs clinical research as required
  • Follows established processes and treatment and QA standards
  • Develops procedures for the department
