Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) and 3 years of relevant experience OR PhD with 1 year of relevant engineering and/or lab experience (for Principal Engineer level)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) and 6 years of relevant experience OR PhD with 4 years of relevant engineering and/or lab experience (for Senior Principal Engineer level)
  • Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite
Responsibilities
  • Assess incoming statements of work and understand the required test procedures, lab assets and test specifications involved
  • Provide cost and schedule estimates for incoming work
  • Communicate with customers on project status
  • Communicate with customers on equipment capabilities, and availability
  • Provide forecasted timelines on anticipated work
  • Physically sort and load test specimens into lab equipment
  • Perform required measurements of samples in moisture conditioning, fluid exposures, salt fog exposure and thermal exposure
  • Provide periodic or final data to the customer, as needed, based on the testing procedure involved, and in a format that best suits the customer’s needs while adhering to specification and/or statement of work requirements
  • Remove test specimens from equipment when ready, package in the specified manner and deliver to customer or the next portion of testing
  • Assess and maintain stock of required exposure fluids and lab consumables
  • Coordinate the repairs and preventative maintenance of equipment by the Facilities Department
  • Coordinate the calibration of equipment by the Metrology Department
  • Maintain relationships with equipment vendors
  • Maintain relationships with commercial laboratories for testing that must be outsourced
  • Properly handle hazardous material
  • Work in an independent role, as well as in a team environment
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of composite, polymer and metallic materials
  • Experience using lab equipment
  • 3 years of lab experience
  • Work using a scientific approach
  • Ability to program test controllers
  • Demonstrated history of troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proper handling of Hazardous Materials
