Hiring Unit: Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE)

Course Description:

EDEE 223-004/005 Language Arts

Different approaches to language arts education in the contexts of kindergarten and elementary classrooms will be investigated. Explores current research and theories related to language and literacy development, learning and teaching. Opportunities for cultivating techniques for aligning language arts pedagogy, curriculum, instruction and assessment will be provided.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education:

MA in a relevant field (i.e. English Language Arts in elementary school education) and/or extensive relevant experience as an English Language Arts school educator/pedagogue

A teaching degree or equivalent

PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset

Experience:

1.Experience as a master teacher/instructor in k/elementary Language Arts:

QEP English Language Arts program & competencies for K/ elementary grades (i.e. LES -designing, planning, assessment for ELA throughout K/Elementary grades)

Critical multi- literacy approaches for Language Arts in K/elementary grades

Other:

Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the undergraduate or graduate level

Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion

Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences

Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset

Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools
