Requirements
  • At least 5 years of welding experience in a sheet metal production environment.
  • Experience welding carbon and stainless-steel sheet under 1/8 inch in thickness using Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, and/or resistance welding.
  • Ability to manage small and large projects from start to finish with proper documentation.
  • Ability to ask questions and quickly grasp new concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the role.
  • Ability to provide hands-on coaching and training to other welders.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee welding training and qualification programs with Process Engineering, including establishing, conducting, and documenting weld training and tests for fabrication areas.
  • Evaluate and audit weld processes and quality systems across fabrication areas to ensure adherence to company standards for weld integrity and visual acceptance.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Welding Procedure Specifications, Standard Operating Procedures, and acceptance criteria for welding methods.
  • Provide technical guidance on welding best practices and improve processes for quality, appearance, strength, ergonomics, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with weld technicians across the enterprise to share projects, gather insight, and implement positive changes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for welding equipment, welding processes, and welding techniques for operations and maintenance needs.
  • Participate in customer corrective action requests, assist in establishing corrective actions, document changes, and ensure their effectiveness.
  • Manage and document welding equipment, conduct risk assessments of existing equipment, and assist with capital projects involving welding equipment.
  • Plan and execute welding process development activities, including prototype trials and validation testing, to support new product introduction, manufacturability assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with local technical schools and industry experts to develop curriculum and maintain knowledge of current welding technology.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree or higher in Welding Technology.
  • Certified Welding Inspector certification through the American Welding Society.
  • Experience with computer-aided design.
