Requirements
  • Excellent written and spoken English, including the preparation of technical documents in English, is required.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice requirements for working in pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities, with a basic understanding of Standard Operating Procedures, validation, and change controls.
  • Knowledge of Good Automated Manufacturing Practice and data integrity requirements.
  • An engineering degree, preferably in Electrical, Electromechanical, Controls, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of pharmaceutical building automation engineering experience, including at least 3 years of building controls experience with Building Automation Systems.
  • Knowledge of Siemens Insight or Desigo, including reading code and making small code modifications.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and Siemens Building Automation System code for Insight or Desigo.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to take initiative to lead projects involving multiple stakeholders, departments, and varying complexity.
  • Mentorship skills to coach and develop junior and intermediate employees.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong multitasking skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to comply with client safety rules, including mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policies where applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance for the design, project management, commissioning, and startup of automation systems for client-facility upgrades, renovations, and expansions.
  • Support project execution from feasibility through project completion and handover, including concept design, basic design, detailed design, procurement, construction, project monitoring and governance, commissioning, and qualification.
  • Prepare, perform, and review electrical drawings, including panel drawings, wiring diagrams, and single-line drawings.
  • Perform programming and configuration on Building Automation Systems.
  • Review programming completed by equipment vendors and other automation firms.
  • Perform automation and electrical troubleshooting on electrical panels and control systems.
  • Facilitate work efforts with Process Engineering, Mechanical, Validation, and client internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and review User Requirements Specifications, Functional Requirements Specifications, System Design Specifications, Detailed Design Specifications, and valve and alarm matrices.
  • Provide input into commissioning Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing and qualification protocols for Installation Qualification and Operational Qualification, and support their execution.
  • Use project-management tools throughout project execution, including procurement tracking, vendor management, meeting minutes and action lists, risk registers, schedule updates, and project updates.
  • Coordinate meetings with cross-functional departments to drive project progress, facilitate decisions, and provide updates.
  • Travel occasionally for client meetings, equipment-fabrication vendors, and Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Provide occasional support during shutdowns or extended hours, particularly during installation and commissioning or validation phases.
  • Manage client relationships in support of business development and pursuit of new work.
  • Support project scheduling and budgeting and coordinate client and company resources for effective project delivery.
  • Provide technical support to sales for proposals and opportunities.
  • Present at industry conferences and publish papers.
  • Visit construction and installation sites.
  • Supervise contractors during critical installations of process equipment and associated utilities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the client or company based on workload and project requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 8 years of pharmaceutical building automation engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of building controls experience with Building Automation Systems.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
