Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • RIT reported a 20% undergraduate application increase for fall 2026, strengthening selectivity.
  • NSF-backed STELLAR and quantum awards expanded in 2026, deepening grants and employer partnerships.

What critics are saying

Kanvas Biosciences has raised $48 million in a Series A round co-led by DCVC and Lions Capital, bringing total funding to $78 million. Gates Foundation, ATHOS KG, Germin8, Ki Tua Fund and Pangaea Ventures also participated. The spatial biology company will use the funds to conduct clinical trials for KAN-001, its lead immuno-oncology drug candidate designed to improve immunotherapy efficacy in solid organ cancer patients. The live biotherapeutic product addresses limitations of fecal microbiota transplants by offering safer, more scalable treatment for patients who don't respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors. Kanvas has developed a platform that spatially maps microbial and host cells, enabling manufacture of complex microbial consortia to restore microbiome health.
