Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of successful experience overseeing a function or people, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid and active CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the needs of members and families.
  • Ability to tactfully handle challenging conversations and situations; trained in de-escalation or willing to be trained.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage situations effectively and diplomatically, and adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
  • Interpersonal, active listening, communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
  • Effective decision-making and judgment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of members.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to work in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and kneel to get to eye level with small children.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods, often for an entire shift.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Provide collaborative, communicative, and decisive oversight of the building.
  • Maintain a vigilant and active oversight presence and visibility.
  • Perform ongoing building rounds during the shift at least once every 30 minutes.
  • Respond to calls and requests in a timely manner.
  • Resolve complex situations, questions, concerns, conflicts, and issues effectively and promptly, escalating issues to security or other leadership or management as needed.
  • Provide support, communication, and decision-making that prioritize community safety and adhere to community conduct and service standards.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies in the building as the first point of contact for staff.
  • Receive, address, document, and share communications about issues during shifts, and complete timely incident and accident reports for follow-up.
  • Address suspicious or unsafe behavior or activity and contact JCC security as needed.
  • Foster a welcoming, friendly, and respectful environment for members and staff through professional conduct and role modeling.
  • Listen to member concerns and suggestions, provide courteous responses, and resolve concerns or provide interim remedies to diffuse situations.
  • Enforce all JCC procedures and policies.
  • Enforce Health and Fitness department policies and procedures.
  • Execute and follow all On-Duty Manager procedures.
  • Report accidents, incident paperwork, issues, and concerns directly to the On-Duty Coordinator and follow up with effective documentation.
  • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment where each individual is valued and respected.
  • Participate as an essential member of the Health and Wellness team while serving the entire community.
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values through personal role modeling.
  • Participate in assigned staff training and meetings.
  • Record hours worked using the Paylocity system according to the payroll schedule and onboarding instructions.
  • Follow JCC policies, practices, and protocols, including punctuality and providing notice of shift coverage when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
