Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in safety or occupational health fields, including safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, or environmental health, or an educational equivalency of eight years of related experience.
  • Approved trainer certification for dealing with aggressive behaviors within three months of hire.
  • A valid driver's license and continued insurability under the SEARHC automobile insurance policy.
  • Current National Incident Management System certifications in 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, or 800, or the ability to obtain them within three months of hire and maintain them regularly.
  • Experience implementing safety and occupational health program elements, standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.
  • Experience inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and identifying potential new hazards.
  • Knowledge of environmental health, safety, and security management techniques, including the hierarchy of controls.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation criteria and the ability to research and interpret requirements.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in conducting safety and security investigations, developing corrective actions, and following through.
  • Skill in developing, implementing, and evaluating program objectives.
  • Skill in performing complex statistical analysis.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and external contacts.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct regulatory compliance surveillance and track mitigation within inpatient, outpatient, and support facilities.
  • Serve as the regulatory compliance liaison during inspections and investigations.
  • Complete employee injury investigations and injury event analyses, provide recommendations and stakeholder communication, report trends, and monitor compliance with loss-control targets.
  • Conduct routine and ad hoc environmental health and safety surveillance, including general and focused studies.
  • Determine the risk of exposure to harm or potential harm in response to identified opportunities.
  • Assist in designing and implementing SEARHC emergency management and response programs.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and conduct emergency preparedness drills at SEARHC facilities in accordance with regulatory requirements and accreditation guidelines.
  • Participate in developing and implementing community-wide emergency response, including attending planning meetings and participating in drills.
  • Participate in developing and implementing standardized environmental health and safety practices at system and facility levels.
  • Assist with developing and implementing the Environmental Safety Management Plan, Hazardous Materials Management Plan, and employee safety activities.
  • Provide staff orientation and in-service training in general safety, fire safety, radiation protection, occupational safety and health, emergency preparedness, and related environmental and occupational health programs.
  • Enter facility areas such as attics and crawl spaces when required, potentially while wearing a respirator or other personal protective equipment.
