Requirements
  • A current Registered Nurse license in Missouri or a compact state license is required.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • The role requires maintaining current licenses, certifications, annual tuberculosis screening, influenza vaccination, ethics training, safety training, information security training, abuse and neglect training, blood-borne pathogens training when applicable, and assigned competency requirements.
  • The role requires the ability to handle emergency and crisis situations, work irregular hours, and perform occasional prolonged standing or walking and occasional lifting, positioning, pushing, or transferring of patients.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive age-appropriate nursing assessments and reassessments, document findings, and assess patient and family education and discharge needs.
  • Establish, coordinate, evaluate, and modify patient plans of care based on assessment data, diagnoses, laboratory data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care.
  • Provide and document nursing interventions, including medication administration, intravenous fluids, parenteral nutrition, referrals, consultations, patient and family education, discharge planning, and assistance with procedures and treatments.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition, clinical parameters, risks, abuse, neglect, and safety concerns, and take appropriate nursing action or report them through the appropriate channels.
  • Provide specialized care for high-risk patients, including restraint care, pain assessment and management, and abuse assessment.
  • Document and communicate nursing care, changes in patient condition, effectiveness of care, patient response to medications and treatments, and variations from care or treatment.
  • Collaborate with health team members, communicate accurate handoff reports, coordinate daily care, and delegate care and other activities to appropriate team members.
  • Apply infection-control, standard-precaution, safe-patient-handling, hazardous-waste, and risk-management practices.
  • Provide timely, respectful, courteous, confidential, and patient-centered care to patients and families.
  • Participate in performance improvement, evidence-based practice, nursing research, occurrence reviews, quality-indicator activities, and unit or hospital committees.
  • Orient or precept new employees, supervise and teach students or new staff nurses, serve as a resource to coworkers and the health care team, and contribute to shared governance or unit-based practice activities.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to adult and geriatric patients and involve families or significant others in care decisions.
  • Use supplies, equipment, and other resources efficiently; document chargeable supplies and equipment; prioritize responsibilities; and complete required work and education on time.
