Position Summary:
The Data Science Manager is responsible for the technical delivery of AI projects, including machine learning, generative AI, and advanced analytics. You will be a technical expert in designing, developing, and engineering AI-based business solutions. In this role, you will manage a highly visible team of Data Scientists and Engineers, as well as external vendors. The team creates enterprise-level AI solutions for the healthcare supply chain and works across commercial, supply chain, and corporate functions. You will collaborate effectively with various technical and functional groups in a matrixed organization to deliver high-impact, high-scale solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy and Planning:
- Bring best practices in AI solutions design, development, and engineering.
- Work closely with product managers to understand functional needs and operational strategy.
- Define technical strategy and collaborate on solution design.
- Create project plans with clear milestones and handoff points.
- Lead development and own technical execution.
- Explore new AI capabilities with architecture to enhance enterprise capabilities.
- Team Management:
- Hire, manage, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Data Scientists and Engineers, both onsite and offshore. Select technology partners.
- Create effective staffing plans, pulling appropriate resources for skills, budget, and timeline.
- Communicate scope, deliverables, expectations, and timelines to technical teams.
- Manage team performance through ongoing feedback.
- Set annual and quarterly goals aligned with organizational needs.
- Technical Expertise:
- Define and follow best practices around the design, development, and engineering of AI solutions.
- Help the team design clever experiments for rapid prototyping.
- Introduce new AI capabilities to the enterprise.
- Qualifications:
- Five years of Data Science and AI experience with a large organization or a consulting firm.
- At least two years of experience in a technical role showcasing intimate knowledge of creating and/or deploying high-scale machine learning solutions (Data Scientist/ML Engineer).
- At least two years of experience in a functional role showcasing the ability to lead technical delivery of enterprise solutions. At least one year of people management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field of study. Graduate degree a plus.
- Working knowledge of software development and deployment in cloud environments.
