Requirements
  • Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required
  • Direct Hire must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date
  • Agency staff must have an active Alaska license
  • Successful completion of a BSN, Diploma, or Associated Nursing Degree Program
  • BLS
  • ACLS/PALS required within 1 year of hire
  • Limited Radiology online course will be required and provided by employer
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
  • High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and every year
  • six months ambulatory health nursing experience with 1-year general nursing experience as an RN following completion of a BSN or 2 years of general nursing experience
  • Background in Emergency/Critical Care Nursing is a plus
  • Knowledge of professional nursing care principles, practice, and procedures
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effect, side effects and complications of their use
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of medical and psychosocial disorders

Responsibilities
  • Develop a plan of care from assessment data in conjunction with the primary care provider; observe, assess, recognize, identify, and interpret the patient condition; document observations, nursing interventions, health teaching, therapeutic measures, and coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines; evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and revise the plan of care accordingly
  • Administer therapeutic measures as ordered by a physician or other qualified health care provider within scope of practice and department protocol; operate specialized equipment; demonstrate correct utilization of computer-based health information system
  • Perform triage of patients requesting non-routine clinic appointments; assess patient according to established protocol and provide appropriate advice or direct patient to level of care; recognize signs and symptoms requiring intervention; maintain sterile and aseptic technique; maintain equipment and supplies; identify safety concerns and correct as needed
  • Nursing staff responsibilities for weekend, on-call, and secondary coverage of the moderate complexity lab including phlebotomy, QA/QI of instrumentation, testing of lab specimens, documenting of lab specimens, proficiency testing, and shipping of lab specimens; respiratory therapy functions including pulmonary function testing, peak flow tests, 12 lead EKGs, Nebulizer treatments, and oxygen therapy; Radiology functions including registering and editing x-rays in the Nova Rad system, taking films, editing, transferring, printing x-rays, erasing and cleaning cassettes, and documentation of radiology studies; Case management assistance with referral care coordinator and establishment of care plans with the patient’s provider
