Requirements
  • Two years of relevant clinical nursing experience in a related specialty, including demonstrated leadership responsibilities such as charge nurse, preceptor, supervisor, or equivalent experience.
  • An unencumbered Oregon Registered Nurse license, or the ability to obtain one before hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Additional clinical certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support or Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification may be required by assignment.
  • A leadership or specialty certification such as Nurse Executive-Board Certified, Certified Nurse Manager and Leader, or a clinical specialty certification must be obtained within two years of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Nurse Manager to translate organizational and nursing priorities into unit plans.
  • Contribute to short- and long-term goal setting, measurable targets, and implementation timelines.
  • Coordinate interventions, track progress using data, and communicate status to stakeholders.
  • Support readiness for accreditation and regulatory changes.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including staffing, scheduling, assignments, patient flow, and escalation pathways.
  • Lead huddles and facilitate clear communication.
  • Provide leadership coverage across days, evenings, nights, weekends, and other shifts as operationally needed.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, competency validation, and performance feedback to staff.
  • Participate in orientation and evaluations.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and succession planning.
  • Recognize exemplary practice and address performance concerns.
  • Promote adherence to professional standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Use data to monitor outcomes and lead or participate in performance improvement, event review, risk mitigation, and dissemination of best practices.
  • Support standard work and error-reduction processes.
  • Foster employee engagement and a positive work environment.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and support attendance and progressive performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor and collective bargaining agreements and human resources policies.
  • Assist with productivity and resource monitoring and apply staffing tools and guidelines.
  • Monitor overtime, premium use, and supply utilization.
  • Educate staff on the financial implications of care decisions and support cost-effective operations.
  • Model ethical, professional nursing practice consistent with the ANA Code of Ethics and Nurse Practice Act.
  • Advocate for patients and families.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams and shared-governance structures.
  • Promote a culture of safety, equity, and inclusion.
