About the job:
Kent is looking for a HSE Advisor to be based in Calgary, AB or Sarnia, ON
Reporting to the Regional HSSE Manager, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of the certified HSSE management system across all projects and offices within the designated country. Verifying and analysing HSSE performance, conducting assurance monitoring, developing and implementing HSSE improvement strategies and working with our proposals teams in support of winning new work. You will also take an active role in the continued professional development of our project based HSSE resources, providing coaching and guidance on development activities, providing formative feedback.
Skills and Responsibilities: |

- Ensure the organisation’s vision and objectives are understood throughout the offices and projects.
- Support the development of HSSE procedures ensuring lessons learned and best practices are embedded.
- Ensure compliance obligations are developed and maintained for each office and project in the country.
- Assure the effectiveness of the HSSE risk management process across all projects and offices.
- Support project management with implementation of the management system and maintaining ISO certification.
- Deliver an internal audit schedule to assure management system compliance across all offices and projects.
- Monitor the effectiveness of HSSE audits and inspections across all locations.
- Ensure all incidents are reported correctly and sufficiently investigated to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor and verify the effective and timely closeout of corrective actions.
- Provide independent investigation guidance and support for High Potential and Recordable incidents.
- Assure the adequacy of HSSE training delivery at all projects and offices.
- Ensure the adequacy of emergency response arrangements in all offices and projects.
- Support the winning of new work through the development of best practice tender questionnaire responses.
- Validate HSSE performance data and prepare accurate performance reports to established timeframes.
- Monitor HSSE performance indicators, supporting the development and implementation of improvement strategies.
- Analyse trends in HSSE performance, advising on areas of concern and potential improvement areas.
- Support project management in the development of project specific objectives and key performance indicators.
- Assist project management in the selection and recruitment of competent HSSE resources.
- Ensure all project HSSE positions have a signed job description.
- Champion the continued professional development of HSSE resources within the country.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: |
|
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification or NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Bachelor’s degree.
- Internal Auditor ISO 14001:2015 or ISO 45001:2018.
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in HSSE.
- Comprehensive understanding of ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 standards and effective auditing
- Comprehensive experience of effective HSSE risk management and the hierarchy of controls
- Experience of developing compliance obligations in differing geographies
- Experience of developing effective HSSE management system plans and procedures
- Advanced investigative practice and experience of effective root cause analysis.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA incident classifications and incident frequency rate formulae.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
- Experience in developing and delivering effective HSSE training packages.
- Ability to think strategically and develop effective HSSE improvement strategies.
- Experience of effective HSSE coaching.
