Schroders launches first tokenised money market fund with Irish approval

Schroders has received approval from the Central Bank of Ireland to launch a tokenised share class in a US dollar money market fund. The share class, called Schroders onchain active returns (SOAR), uses J.P. Morgan's Kinexys multi-chain tokenisation system. Investors will be able to use blockchain-based smart contracts to automatically process transactions such as redemptions and transfers. The structure allows the fund to operate outside conventional systems, including enabling direct transfers between clients. Schroders said the technology could enable future applications like collateralisation and round-the-clock treasury management. The Ireland-domiciled fund will be managed by Neil Sutherland, head of US fixed income at Schroders, alongside credit specialists. The launch follows Schroders Capital's introduction of tokenised features to its insurance-linked securities platform earlier this year.

Assets under management reached a record £867.8bn on 30 June 2026, up from £823.7bn at the end of 2025. The increase reflected market gains, favourable foreign exchange movements and investment performance, partly offset by net outflows of £8.3bn excluding joint ventures and associates. The firm has delivered over 98% of its £150m annualised cost savings target set in March 2025. Schroders announced the sale of Benchmark, its UK financial advice business, and completed exits from Brazil and Indonesia. Shareholders approved Nuveen's acquisition of Schroders with over 99% support. The deal, expected to close in Q4 2026, would create a combined entity managing approximately $2.5tn in assets.
