KPMG barred from Victoria government tenders until October over confidential document misuse

KPMG has been barred from bidding for new government contracts in Victoria, Australia, until at least October, according to the Australian Financial Review. The Big Four firm must also withdraw from current tender negotiations following misconduct involving confidential client documents. The ban stems from KPMG's admission that former chief operating officer Eileen Hoggett improperly stored and shared confidential Lendlease board papers. Victoria joins other Australian jurisdictions, including the Federal Government and several states, in blocking KPMG from tender processes until 30 September. KPMG currently holds Victorian contracts worth A$24 million and participates in broader consortia valued at A$195 million. The firm is implementing job cuts and has already reduced partner pay by 20%. John Sams recently became Australia CEO after Andrew Yates resigned in May.

KPMG becomes OpenAI Elite Partner after building AI supply chain platform for the frontier lab

KPMG has been named an OpenAI Elite Partner following a collaboration in which KPMG built an internal supply chain platform for OpenAI itself. That deployment now serves as the foundation for KPMG's enterprise AI offerings. The partnership centres on "headless" software, where employees stop navigating applications and instead describe what they want done. AI agents interpret requests, coordinate across backend systems, and execute tasks. "You're going to be talking more than you're typing," said Chad Seiler, KPMG's US industry leader for technology, media and telecommunications. The model keeps existing enterprise systems as infrastructure whilst adding an intelligent agent layer on top. KPMG maintains parallel partnerships with other frontier labs, including Anthropic. The firm has integrated OpenAI capabilities into its internal AI tool since 2023.

KPMG UK is cutting 10% of staff across its support teams, affecting approximately 200 back office roles, according to a company spokesperson. This represents the latest round of job reductions by the Big Four accountancy firm. The cuts target support functions rather than client-facing positions. KPMG has not disclosed specific details about which departments will be affected or the timeline for the redundancies.

KPMG invests in Incentify to scale AI-powered tax credits and incentives platform globally

KPMG has made a minority equity investment in Incentify, an AI-powered credits and incentives technology provider, expanding their collaboration to help organisations identify and manage credits, grants and incentives across over 120 countries. The partnership centres on ICON (KPMG Incentive Credit Opportunity Navigator), which combines KPMG's global incentives dataset with Incentify's US incentives warehouse and AI engine. The platform uses AI to scan and assess thousands of programmes, reducing work that previously took tax teams weeks into days. ICON is embedded in KPMG Digital Gateway and provides clients with a secure view of relevant credits and incentives across federal, state, local and international jurisdictions. The investment follows KPMG's recent global alliance with Anthropic and previous minority investments in companies including Fieldguide, Ema and Rhino.AI through KPMG Ventures.

Microsoft expands KPMG partnership, deploying AI tools to 276,000 professionals worldwide

Microsoft has expanded its partnership with KPMG to deploy Microsoft Agent 365 and Microsoft 365 Copilot across KPMG's global network. KPMG member firms will roll out Copilot to more than 276,000 professionals worldwide, whilst using Agent 365 to manage and secure AI agents across client work and internal systems. The deal positions Microsoft's AI tools within one of the world's largest professional-services networks, where audit, tax and advisory teams can scale AI adoption. KPMG is also using Azure AI Foundry as the foundation for KPMG Workbench, a platform coordinating multiple AI agents across client-service systems. The expansion strengthens Microsoft's enterprise AI channel as corporate buyers increasingly demand governance, security and measurable workflow improvements from AI deployments.
