Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field (required); advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years in EHS leadership roles, with at least 5 years of regional or multi-site management experience.
  • Proven success in MSHA-regulated environments such as mining operations, mine closures, or remediation projects.
  • Experience with large, complex construction projects in civil, geotechnical, or environmental sectors.
  • Strong history of team management, client engagement, and regulatory interaction.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • MSHA and OSHA certifications required
Responsibilities

  • Support the Director in leading, managing, and mentoring a multi-state team of EHS professionals (5+), with a focus on development, accountability, and performance.
  • Champion MSHA compliance by developing, writing, and implementing safety and health programs tailored to mining and mine-reclamation environments.
  • Leverage advanced knowledge of MSHA and OSHA to ensure regulatory compliance, prepare for inspections, and respond appropriately to citations or inquiries.
  • Lead and deliver compliance-based training programs and field coaching that improve awareness, technical knowledge, and safety culture.
  • Proactively conduct risk-based assessments to identify hazards, minimize liabilities, and guide safe operational practices.
  • Interface confidently with regulators and clients, both verbally and in writing, to explain findings, present corrective actions, and represent the company during audits, reviews, or bid processes.
  • Collaborate with project teams and executives to implement health and safety initiatives aligned with operational and strategic goals.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and claims management, ensuring effective documentation and preventative actions.
  • Collect, analyze, and report safety metrics and narratives to support internal reporting, business development, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with estimating and business development teams to contribute to pre-bid safety reviews and create compelling narratives for proposals.
  • Apply strong organizational and time management skills to oversee multiple initiatives and priorities across geographically dispersed projects.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead through influence across disciplines and departments.
