Requirements
  • A high school diploma, General Educational Development credential, or equivalent working knowledge is required.
  • A minimum of one year of Certified Nursing Assistant experience is required.
  • The ability to train and mentor other employees is required.
  • The ability to float to other areas of the facility is required.
  • Completion of a preceptor education course is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • A current Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of practice is required in accordance with regulatory requirements or facility or department policy.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to lead other employees are required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective human relations and communication skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills is required.
  • Variable shifts and hours and on-call duties may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide daily living assistance and complete necessary tasks to promote patient health, including basic hygiene, maintaining optimum mobility levels, safe patient handling, oxygen support, infection control practices, nutritional intake assistance, and end-of-life care.
  • Collect patient specimens and data, including vital signs, glucose testing, input/output, and other delegated measurements, in accordance with unit or facility policy and standards of care.
  • Document objective data and routine aspects of patient care.
  • Assist with transporting patient specimens.
  • Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient health status and patient responses to treatment by a licensed professional.
  • Promote continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Perform procedures and use equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, consistent with demonstrated competencies and state scope of practice, including blood draws, Foley catheter removal, electrocardiograms, electrocardiogram monitoring, and bladder scanning.
  • Provide supplies, support, and assistance to medical staff and patients for unit-specific procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Incorporate infection control standards.
  • Maintain adequate office, dietary, and medical supplies and complete requisition forms when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Reconcile supply orders upon delivery.
  • Monitor and track electronic equipment, including patient identification scanners and laptop computers, and ensure that equipment is accounted for and working.
  • Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support operating efficiency and communication and information flow throughout the department.
  • Participate in resolving customer problems by collecting necessary data and following through with the appropriate person for problem resolution.
  • Mentor, train, and teach other staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects.
