Requirements
  • Grade 12 Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in waste management facilities, industrial landfills, pipeline operations, or a related industry.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record.
  • Valid industry safety tickets and certifications.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to provide effective leadership, guidance, coaching, and support to staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, company applications, and corporate safety systems.
  • Strong operational knowledge and the ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and resolve issues effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the safe, effective, and efficient day-to-day operations of SECURE’s waste processing facilities.
  • Monitor facility throughput, key performance indicators, performance metrics, and daily volume balances.
  • Provide operational guidance and troubleshooting support to Operators.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize resources, improve processes, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance, training, coaching, and support to ensure employees perform their duties effectively and safely.
  • Oversee employee orientations, competency assessments, required training, and safety tickets.
  • Oversee staffing, workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and employee development.
  • Lead by example in promoting SECURE’s safety culture and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensure employees and contractors follow SECURE’s policies, Code of Practice, Life Saving Rules, and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee hazard assessments, Safe Work Permits, safety meetings, incident investigations, emergency response planning, audits, and required documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, contractors, regulatory authorities, municipalities, and community members.
  • Support operational budgets, forecasts, cost management, and opportunities to improve performance and profitability.
  • Maintain effective communication with the General Manager, Operations, regarding operational performance, challenges, and business priorities.
  • Be available to support occasional on-call and emergency operational needs.
  • Travel regularly between the Peace River, Rainbow Lake, Valleyview, and High Prairie facilities.
  • Work extended hours or weekends as business needs require and support operations outdoors in all weather conditions and during emergency response requirements.

GFL to acquire Secure Waste for $6.4B, adding 80+ facilities across Western Canada

GFL Environmental has agreed to acquire Secure Waste Infrastructure for $6.4 billion, expanding its presence in Western Canada and North Dakota. The deal includes over 80 locations comprising 12 landfills, 55 waste treatment facilities, 12 recycling facilities, 98 injection wells and five transfer stations. Secure shareholders can choose $24.75 in cash, 0.4195 GFL subordinate voting shares, or a combination for each share held. Cash payments are capped at 20% of the total consideration, with GFL shares limited to 80%. GFL founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said the acquisition will densify the company's Western Canada footprint and enhance its ability to offer comprehensive waste management services. The transaction requires shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
