Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience managing teams who have shipped and supported scalable production systems
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering roles
  • Experience managing development on embedded software for IoT based Embedded Devices, diagnostic, or safety
  • Self-motivated to lead your teams, encourage standard methodologies, and constantly improve
  • Effective interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent real world experience
Responsibilities
  • Build and lead a highly effective team that owns Embedded Software for the future generations of the Autonomous Delivery Devices and Units (Cargo) that are part of Cruise's Autonomous Vehicles
  • Review designs, guide system level architecture development, and supervise the software development for the Delivery & Mobility AV Edge Devices
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Delivery Business Unit, Product Management, Program Management, Safety and Systems Engineering, Test Engineering and Fleet/Release teams to define and deliver Embedded software for Autonomous Delivery Edge Devices
  • Work with technical lead(s) to set the technical direction for the team, and anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges
  • Work with Senior Managers, Engineering Directors, and Technical Program Managers to create and complete a roadmap for your team
  • Drive software engineering standard methodologies and participate in design and code reviews
  • Conduct performance evaluations, identify top performers, and support their growth into Technical Leadership or Engineering Management roles
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative culture and high-output team
  • Help define, build, and embody Cruise engineering culture and principles
  • Invest heavily in recruiting by working closely with recruiters, screening candidates, and finding opportunities for external engagement to improve the Cruise engineering brand
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience building or managing performance and safety critical systems or similar (FDA, FAA, Automotive)
  • Familiar with Hardware Abstraction Layers, Embedded Middleware, Frameworks and Application layer software
  • Experience with one or more RTOS like Zephyr, FreeRTOS or other Real Time Operating Systems on IOT platforms
  • Experience developing on and for Embedded Linux / POSIX systems is a Plus
  • Experience managing a team that develops with one or more peripheral devices like motors, QR scanners, sensors, displays, LED's or other Ethernet or Wireless connected devices
  • Experience with modern C++11 or later development
  • Experience working with ROS or other robotics frameworks
