Requirements
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as RN and APRN in West Virginia
  • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and ATLS certification required
  • Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred
  • Master’s level education for PA preferred? (but it's under PA section)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s in Medical/Surgical PA required
  • ARC-PA approved PA program
  • Certification by NCCPA
  • Licensed or eligible for WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine
  • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and ATLS
  • Masters level education as Medical/Surgical PA preferred
  • American Heart Association PALs certification encouraged
  • Eligible new graduates will be considered
Responsibilities
  • Manages comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and their families in the DEM and immediate post discharge in the ambulatory setting
  • Completes pre-procedure evaluations
  • Completes integrated assessments
  • Orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate in collaboration with emergency medicine faculty or established Guidelines and Protocols
  • Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice
  • Consults and communicates with DEM clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in evaluations
  • Performs succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings in medical record
  • Facilitates patient DEM discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to discharge for outpatient follow-up appointments in the clinic
  • Develops comprehensive individualized plan of care including teaching, discharge planning and necessary referral
  • Demonstrates expertise across age continuum
  • Identifies unstable or complex emergency medicine patient care situations and facilitates intervention
  • Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care
  • Evaluates emergency medicine patients and serves as coordinator for follow up procedures/tests in ambulatory or admission
  • Assists in collection of outcome measures
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning
  • Utilizes equipment safely
  • Bases decisions on scientific principles and standards
  • Uses teaching/learning theory to educate staff, patients, families and community
  • Promotes environment conducive to learning and responsive to patient/family readiness
  • Updates knowledge base
  • Completes all identified clinical competencies
  • Serves as resource for staff
  • Provides educational programs
  • Participates in community programs
  • Documents plan of care and interventions clearly in medical record
  • Collaborates with leaders to achieve patient outcome improvements
  • Provides leadership for changes in emergency medicine practice
  • Works with medical and nursing staff for problem solving
  • Participates and initiates inter-disciplinary approaches
  • Promotes and practices innovation of expanded role
  • Participates in committees and task forces
  • Documents hours and submits billing reports
  • Reviews and interprets emergency medicine data and recommends changes
  • Participates in clinical trials and research
  • Assists in collection of outcome measures with faculty/administrators
  • Other duties/projects as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • ACNP or FNP considered
  • PALs certification encouraged
  • Masters level PA preferred
