Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of outside sales, territory sales, business development, account management, or related experience building and retaining a customer base.
  • A proven ability to build customer relationships, establish trust, identify new business opportunities, grow existing accounts, and achieve sales goals.
  • Strong consultative selling skills, including understanding customer needs, recommending personalized solutions, overcoming objections, negotiating effectively, and moving opportunities through the sales process.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including prioritizing high-value activities, managing multiple opportunities, and staying organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work independently and autonomously while collaborating effectively with customers, branch teams, and sales partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality, and delivering on promises.
  • The ability and willingness to learn technical product information and apply it to customer and project needs.
  • Comfort using computers, customer relationship management systems, business software, and new technology.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory, with travel of up to 50% of the time as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain long-term customer relationships by understanding customers' businesses, projects, and evolving needs.
  • Grow the assigned territory by prospecting for new customers and expanding existing accounts.
  • Visit customers, job sites, contractors, municipalities, and other industry partners in the field.
  • Understand customer needs and recommend products, services, and solutions for construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Research customer businesses, upcoming projects, construction plans, bids, and market activity.
  • Prepare and submit accurate, competitive quotes for products, supplies, and materials.
  • Follow up on quotes and sales opportunities, address customer questions and objections, and convert opportunities into profitable business.
  • Develop knowledge of waterworks products and applications to provide consultative customer solutions.
  • Partner with Inside Sales Representatives and branch leadership to coordinate customer needs, quotes, orders, and opportunities through project completion.
  • Collaborate with purchasing, warehouse, and operations teams to support product availability, accurate order fulfillment, and customer commitments.
  • Maintain customer communication, deliver on promises, and identify opportunities for future growth.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and new products.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and sales activity information in company systems.
  • Take ownership of the assigned territory, customer relationships, and sales results.
  • Contribute to a collaborative environment focused on initiative, accountability, and continuous improvement.
