Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed provider, including taking and recording patient vital signs, medical histories, personal and social histories, pain and fall risk assessments, and reasons for visits, and entering information into the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
  • Perform uroflow testing and operate ultrasound equipment for bladder residual volume testing.
  • Assist the physician with ultrasound testing.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
  • Maintain clean and organized examination rooms and restock supplies.
  • Provide patient education on prescribed treatments, medication instructions, preventative care, and discharge summaries.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as performed by the physician, including medical histories and physical examinations, procedures and treatments, patient education and explanations of risks and benefits, and physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, instructions, and follow-up information.
  • Identify and correct mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation, with all addenda signed off by a physician.
  • Comply with medical-record standards and legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and protecting patient confidentiality.
  • Attend training on information technology, legal matters, HIPAA, regulatory compliance, billing, and coding.
  • Learn and apply new knowledge to processes and procedures.
  • Proofread and edit physicians' medical documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, training sessions, and mentoring activities designed to prepare participants for medical school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems or clinical workflows.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or volunteer setting.
  • Pre-medical coursework including one year of biology with laboratory, one year of general chemistry with laboratory, one year of organic chemistry with laboratory, one semester of biochemistry, one year of physics with laboratory, and one year of English.
