Requirements

  • Employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses with side shields, steel-toe safety footwear, hearing protection, and lockout/tagout devices.
  • Employees must complete required onboarding, task-specific, and Mine Safety and Health Administration-related training, including safety procedures, equipment operation, hazard recognition, emergency response, lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment, and other regulatory and operational training.
Responsibilities
  • Run the necessary equipment and processes in the quarry operation to identify the type of stone needed, drill holes for explosives, assist with blasting, load trucks with stone, transport stone within the quarry, and run stone through the crusher.
  • Inspect the drill before use to ensure proper functioning and the absence of safety defects.
  • Determine where to lay out shots based on the type and location of stone needed to maintain inventory supply for mill operations.
  • Transport and set up the drill at the proper drilling site and drill the shots.
  • Assist the blasting contractor with the blasting process as needed.
  • Inspect excavating machines before use, start and warm them up, and grease the boom and bucket as required.
  • Position excavating machines at the proper work site, break large stones to a crushable size using rock-breaking equipment, and excavate around the quarry using excavating equipment.
  • Inspect the loader before each use, start and warm it up, transport it to the proper work site, and sort stone by the required color.
  • Load trucks with stone for transport to the crusher, prepare areas for drilling operations, and ensure berms are adequately sized and maintained.
  • Inspect trucks before use, fuel and service or grease them as needed, warm them up, drive them on quarry roads, position them for loading, and transport material to the crusher.
  • Back the truck to the crusher hopper and use the truck controls to dump stone into the hopper.
  • Inspect crushing equipment before each shift, grease the crushing system, and start the crusher, belts, and dust collectors using controls.
  • Communicate with truck drivers, loader operators, and contract haulers about stone handling and transport.
  • Control when and where trucks dump stone hauled from the quarry.
  • Participate in sustainable improvement processes, including 5S, Kaizen, Total Productive Maintenance, Daily Management Control, Standard Work, and Problem Solving.
  • Complete safety inspection sheets for work areas and mobile equipment.
  • Inspect the water pump periodically to ensure proper functioning.
  • Record labor distribution information from the work shift.
  • Fuel and grease equipment as needed.
  • Assist with unplugging the crusher and related equipment as needed.
  • Plow snow and salt roads as needed.
  • Strip overburden by loading and hauling materials to clean up quarry areas.
  • Clean work areas using equipment and tools as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Prior quarry, heavy equipment, mining, construction, manufacturing, or related experience is preferred.
  • Ability to train or share knowledge with others is preferred.

The specialty minerals company posted a reported loss of $5.90 per share, though earnings excluding special items were $1.60 per share, up 3% from the prior year. The company recorded a $290 million charge to fund a trust resolving talc-related claims and its subsidiary's bankruptcy proceedings. CEO Douglas Dietrich said the firm is on track for mid-single digit full-year growth despite absorbing significant inflationary costs that temporarily impacted margins. The Engineered Solutions segment achieved record operating margins of 17.8%, whilst Consumer & Specialties operating income declined 21% due to unfavourable volume mix and higher costs. The new officers, who will serve two-year terms, are: * Chair: Mitchell Koppelman * Chair-elect: Diane Ramirez * Treasurer: Mike Lentz * Secretary: Nicole Creech * Immediate Past Chair: Traci Stewart Mitch Koppelman, PhD, is a retired vice president of strategic planning for Minerals Technologies and principal consultant for Mineral Solutions and Strategy, where he provides consulting and advisory services to multinational clients. He and his wife Debbie, who has pulmonary arterial hypertension, lost two daughters to pulmonary arterial hypertension. Koppelman is involved in local government and planning in Sanibel, Florida, and Seaside Park, New Jersey. Diane Ramirez, of Lexington, North Carolina, has served on the PHA board for 14 years. In September 2023, she underwent heart and lung transplant after living with PH for 36 years. Her primary motivation to help PHA with its mission comes from losing a brother and two sisters to PAH. Minerals Technologies Inc. has published its 18th Sustainability Report, announcing it achieved all 12 environmental targets set in 2018 and established new 10-year goals through 2035. The New York-based specialty minerals company reduced Scope 1 emissions by 34% and Scope 2 emissions by 42% in absolute terms, exceeding its original targets. MTI also cut landfill waste by 44%, more than doubling its 20% reduction target, and decreased water withdrawal by 31%. In 2025, 67% of the company's new products had a sustainable profile. MTI achieved a record-low injury rate of 0.54, with 92% of sites operating injury-free. The company reported global sales of $2.1 billion in 2025 and employs 4,000 people across 34 countries.

Minerals Technologies proposes $450M trust for talc claims in BMI OldCo bankruptcy plan

Minerals Technologies Inc. has filed a plan of reorganisation in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of its subsidiary BMI OldCo Inc. and affiliated debtors. The filing meets a court-imposed deadline whilst broader disputes remain pending before the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The plan proposes a $450 million trust fund to address current and future talc-related claims, with a channeling injunction protecting non-debtor affiliates. MTI maintains that BMI OldCo's talc products are safe and the lawsuits are meritless. The company will record a $290 million charge in Q2 2026 to increase reserves for estimated costs. MTI continues funding the debtors' administrative expenses whilst awaiting the district court's determination on whether BMI OldCo's talc contained asbestos.
