Sphere Entertainment Co. announces that The Wizard of Oz at Sphere will debut a series of new and expanded 4D effects beginning Friday, September 25th. In addition, tickets for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere are now on sale through the beginning of 2027. Since opening in August 2025, Sphere has brought the beloved classic, The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, to life at an unprecedented scale by using advanced proprietary technologies. The experience has been transporting guests through an iconic tornado scene that drops Dorothy and her friends on the yellow brick road where apples fall from the sky, and Winged Monkeys take flight. The new and expanded 4D effects debuting in The Wizard of Oz at Sphere include: animatronic Winged Monkeys; themed scents; "Glinda Glitter;" pyrotechnic fireworks; and scented apples. "At Sphere, we're constantly exploring new ways to push the boundaries of immersive storytelling and create new experiences for our audiences. The upcoming enhancements to The Wizard of Oz at Sphere take some of the most memorable moments from the experience to the next level to immerse and transport audiences deeper into the world of Oz," states Jennifer Koester, Sphere President and Chief Operating Officer. In its first year, The Wizard of Oz at Sphere has pushed immersive storytelling to new heights through spectacular 4D effects at a remarkable scale. The Wizard of Oz at Sphere is presented by Sphere Studios in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, Google, and Magnopus. The Wizard of Oz at Sphere has multiple showtimes daily.
Sphere Entertainment's Q2 2026 results: venue revenue up 29%, segment loss $69.6 million. Sphere Entertainment Co. reported second quarter results on July 30. Its Sphere segment covers the Las Vegas venue and the productions running in it. That segment took $226.4 million in the three months to June 30. The figure is up $50.8 million, or 29%, on the same quarter a year earlier. The same segment recorded an operating loss of $69.6 million. The VR Collective covered the ticket-sales side of this venue in July. Two profit numbers, $109.5 million apart. The same release reports Sphere segment adjusted operating income of $39.9 million, up $15.0 million or 60%. Adjusted operating income is a non-GAAP measure, and Sphere Entertainment defines it in the release as operating income before depreciation, amortization and impairments of property, equipment, goodwill and intangibles, cloud-computing amortization, share-based compensation, restructuring charges, merger and acquisition costs, gains and losses on business disposals, purchase accounting adjustments, and deferred compensation remeasurement. The distance between positive $39.9 million and negative $69.6 million is $109.5 million of those charges, in one quarter. Company-wide depreciation and amortization was $84.3 million over the same three months. The building accounts for most of that. Sphere Las Vegas cost about $2.3 billion. The company disclosed that figure in SEC filings in May 2023, after successive increases from the $1.2 billion estimate announced in 2018. Capital of that size shows up as depreciation every quarter for decades, whether or not the shows sell. What the segment numbers say about the venue. Taken on its own, the venue is improving. The Sphere segment's operating loss of $69.6 million was $13.9 million smaller than the $83.4 million loss a year earlier. Across six months, segment revenue reached $492.3 million, up 48%. The operating loss narrowed 47% to $94.5 million. Adjusted operating income tripled to $114.2 million. The consolidated picture moves the other way. Total revenues of $313.6 million were up 11%. The total operating loss widened by $11.1 million, or 22%, to $61.3 million. The cause sits in the other segment. MSG Networks revenue fell 18% to $87.3 million on a subscriber decline of roughly 16.5%. Its operating income dropped 75% to $8.3 million. Sphere segment costs also rose. Direct operating expenses climbed 15% to $87.7 million. Selling, general and administrative expenses climbed 30% to $125.6 million. That last increase came from mark-to-market adjustments on share-based awards as the share price rose, higher compensation, and litigation costs tied to the MSG Networks merger. The expansion target Dolan gave analysts. On the earnings call the same day, Executive Chairman and CEO James Dolan said he wants the company to "have five venues up or more and have another five that are under construction" five or six years from now. That target is from the call transcript rather than the release. Yas Island has been selected for Sphere Abu Dhabi, with construction expected to be complete by the end of 2029. Plans for National Harbor continue. The company says it remains in discussion with a significant number of markets about large and smaller-scale Sphere venues. The production pipeline behind the revenue. The quarter carried 220 performances of The Wizard of Oz at Sphere. The prior year quarter carried 215 performances of Postcard from Earth and V-U2 An Immersive Concert Film. The Wizard of Oz opened on August 28 2025. It passed $400 million in ticket sales and three million tickets by mid-June 2026. Sphere Entertainment says the next production, The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere, arrives in 2027. Dolan told analysts it will take under twelve months to produce, against roughly two years for The Wizard of Oz. Event revenue fell $11.7 million on two fewer brand events, partly offset by six additional concert residency shows. Sponsorship, Exosphere advertising and suite licence fees added $10.5 million. Lance Loesberg and Jeremy Dalton walked through the same economics on The VR Collective's immersive cinema podcast in July. What this means for operators and investors. $226.4 million of quarterly revenue and a $400 million title produced $39.9 million of adjusted operating income and a $69.6 million operating loss in the same three months. The $109.5 million between the two figures is depreciation and other charges on a $2.3 billion building. Carry those two numbers into any pitch for a dome, a wraparound screen or another large-format immersive venue. A capital plan has to answer the second one. LEXRA members compare venue capital models through the association at lexra.org. Faq. What did Sphere Entertainment report for the second quarter of 2026? Revenues of $313.6 million, up 11%, an operating loss of $61.3 million, and adjusted operating income of $50.9 million, for the three months ended June 30 2026. How did the Sphere segment perform on its own? Revenues of $226.4 million, up 29%; an operating loss of $69.6 million, which is $13.9 million smaller than the prior year quarter; and adjusted operating income of $39.9 million, up 60%. Why does the Sphere segment show a profit and a loss at the same time? Adjusted operating income excludes depreciation, amortization, share-based compensation, restructuring and merger costs. Those excluded charges came to $109.5 million for the segment in the quarter. How many Sphere venues are planned? Sphere Abu Dhabi on Yas Island is targeted for completion by the end of 2029 and National Harbor is progressing. On the July 30 earnings call, James Dolan said he wants five or more venues open and another five under construction within five to six years. How much did Sphere Las Vegas cost to build? About $2.3 billion, per company filings in May 2023, up from a $1.2 billion estimate when the project was announced in 2018.
Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp shares rose 3.31% in premarket trading Wednesday after reporting fourth-quarter results that exceeded analyst expectations. The company posted a quarterly loss of $0.21 per share, beating the consensus forecast of $0.58 per share loss. Revenue climbed 27% year-on-year to $196.3 million, surpassing estimates of $184.7 million. Growth was driven by increased concert activity at Madison Square Garden Arena and stronger food and beverage sales. For fiscal 2026, total revenue reached $1.06 billion, up 13% from the previous year. Around 6.4 million guests attended nearly 960 events across the company's venues. The operating loss narrowed significantly to $8.6 million from $25.8 million in the prior-year quarter. Management expects continued momentum into fiscal 2027.
Ready for Wizard of Oz 2.0 at Sphere? Sphere Entertainment has officially announced an upcoming upgraded show experience titled Wizard of Oz 2.0, enhancing its hit production. Following the success of the initial immersive screening at the venue, organizers are introducing new visual elements and interactive atmospheric effects designed to take audiences deeper into the classic story. The original release established strong interest, and the revised version aims to expand on those foundational technical capabilities. The updated Wizard of Oz 2.0 attraction incorporates newly developed 16K resolution visuals projected across the vast wrap-around interior LED screen inside the Las Vegas venue. Production teams have integrated additional haptic seat vibrations, environmental wind effects, and specialized scent cues to correspond directly with major scenes in the film. Viewers following the yellow brick road will experience heightened sensory elements, including enhanced tornado simulations and flying witch sequences designed specifically for the state of the art sound and projection systems. Entertainment industry reporting shows that interactive venue experiences generate high engagement, with ticket sales for immersive cinematic shows increasing by up to 35% compared to standard formats. Entry prices for the enhanced experience start at $99 per ticket, scaling higher for premium seating positions throughout the venue. Venue operators note that adding refined visual and physical triggers allows returning guests to encounter familiar media in an entirely new format. Executives associated with the venue highlight that Wizard of Oz 2.0 represents an ongoing effort to continually update high-profile content. By deploying continuous technological revisions, the venue maintains high interest levels among local residents and visiting tourists. Initial testing indicates that expanded environmental features increase guest satisfaction scores by 20% over early show iterations. The rollout of Wizard of Oz 2.0 at The Sphere reinforces the venue broader strategy of blending historic cinematic properties with advanced digital hardware. As Las Vegas continues to prioritize cutting edge entertainment options, updated immersive titles provide operators with reliable audience draw. The refreshed show is scheduled to run throughout the autumn season, with tickets available directly through participating venue distribution channels.

However, the company reported an operating loss of $61.3m, an increase of $11.1m (22%), and an adjusted operating income (AOI) of $50.9m, a drop of $10.5m compared to the second quarter of 2025. Looking forward In May, Sphere Entertainment secured a $1.7bn investment from Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism to build the first Sphere venue outside of the US. It is set to be built on a plot of land between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, with the investment covering the construction phase. The company is also in continued discussions over large and smaller-scale Sphere venues, while plans to bring Sphere to National Habor in Maryland continue to move forward. Sphere Entertainment also announced the production of a new Sphere Experience, 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere', which is expected to open in 2027. Last month, the company and Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix extended their partnership with a new five-year agreement. "[These] results reflect our continued execution in Las Vegas, as we remain on track to deliver substantial growth this calendar year. We are also advancing our long-term vision for a global network of Sphere venues, including in Abu Dhabi and National Harbor," said James L. Dolan, executive chairman and chief executive of Sphere Entertainment.
