Software Engineer

Position Description

Serco is seeking a Software Engineer to join a growing team in Newport, RI working at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center that is designing, constructing, and delivering the next generation of undersea warfare Training Systems to the Fleet. Your focus will be on designing, implementing, testing, and delivering components of the Training Systems.

In this position, you will:

• Be part of the Kanban team that is responsible for developing and delivering the Submarine Bridge Trainer to the Navy.
• Specifically: Design, develop, and test components of the Submarine Bridge Trainer with a focus on the Replay component
• The Replay capability allows the Navy's instructors to debrief the training session to the sailors.
• Assist in integrating, testing, and installing the Submarine Bridge Trainer.

Qualifications

To be Successful in this role, you will have:

• Bachelor’s degree with 2 years' experience or a Masters degree or High School Diploma / Equivalent with 6 years' experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Two years relevant software experience.
• Proficiency with C++.
• Ability to perform basic tasks in a RHEL/CentOS Linux environment.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle.
• Working knowledge of git.
• Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
• Work on site Newport, Rhode Island
• Must be willing to travel 10% of the time

Additional desired experience and skills:

• Proficiency working in RHEL/CentOS Linux environment.
• Working knowledge in software architecture and design of object-oriented applications, unit testing, debugging, and installation.
• Knowledge of Red Hat KVM.
• Experience with Redis
