Requirements
  • Experienced engineering leader having led and worked with cross-functional groups (supply chain, production, field operations/support, software, hardware, mechanical, electrical, integration, test, safety engineers) throughout the entire product development life cycle to ensure that final products meet the requirements/objectives and the product can be effectively released to production
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills in an emerging tech company by promoting problem solving development, accountability and engagement
  • Experience with integrated hardware/software products and solutions
  • Experience with taking a concept to product with a focus on design for manufacturability and scalability
  • Proven track record of building partnerships with OEMs and Tier 1 automotive suppliers
  • Proven success building a Hardware organization to support complex software architecture
  • PhD or Masters degree in Engineering preferred
  • Minimum 15 years of experience with 10+ years of engineering leadership
  • Global business experience
  • Product development, program management, and launch execution experience
  • Willingness to travel 10-25% both domestically and internationally
Responsibilities
  • Reporting directly to the CTO, the Vice President of Hardware Engineering will manage the workflow of the 100+ member hardware team as a tactical, organized, results oriented leader
  • Oversee the hardware architecture in support of Motional's technology development teams
  • Responsible for the successful execution and delivery of all vehicle programs
  • Develop high level organizational wide roadmaps that allow hardware to succeed in a software driven organization; reconcile gaps between hardware and software, and make the org understand key goals and priorities
  • Partner with the Engineering Senior Leadership team and other senior team members to help lead strategy and prioritize the needs of the business
  • Develop, implement, and communicate engineering plans and status throughout all levels of the company, including financial and resource budget planning and management
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for constructive ideas, the appreciation of diversity, as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together
  • Lead employees using a performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage employee contribution and includes goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning
  • Identify opportunities for increasing performance and reliability while striving to be cost efficient
  • Execute and deliver on the relevant roadmaps, enabling your team leads to unblock their teams and create a focus on partnering with internal customers and stakeholders
  • Partner with Tier 1 Automotive Manufacturer; Hyundai Motor Group, and Tier 1 ADAS Supplier; Aptiv
  • Set priorities across multiple generations of product and hardware development
  • Create mechanical, electrical, and systems design review process and culture
  • Set documentation standards with an eye on scalability for building a high volume production environment
  • Design hardware and manufacturing lab for low volume in house production of prototypes and proof of concepts
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in autonomous vehicle systems or robotics
  • A background in developing systems from concept through production and deployment
  • Experience with ISO 26262 or similar safety standards
