Requirements
  • Completion of nursing school.
  • Successful completion of a 30-hour approved intravenous therapy course within 30 days of hire for inpatient or skilled nursing facility assignments only.
  • A current nursing license in the State of Florida, renewed every two years.
  • Current Basic Life Support/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • No prior experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and document individualized patient care, including patient evaluation, education, medication administration, intravenous therapy, treatments, and patient safety as directed by the registered nurse or provider.
  • Demonstrate competency in advanced practical nursing skills and use of patient-care or unit equipment defined by unit-specific required skills.
  • Communicate appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse and other healthcare team members.
  • Assist the registered nurse or provider during examinations and procedures.
  • Document patient data and patient education according to organizational and department-specific guidelines.
  • Perform triage functions, including assessing the patient and determining the next step in care in collaboration with the department nursing team or providers.
  • Administer oral and injectable medications or immunizations within the licensed practical nurse scope and as directed by a provider.
  • Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients and families.
  • Stay informed about changes in hospital policies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Participate in nursing performance-improvement activities as assigned.
  • Apply knowledge of legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on assessment of patient status and needs.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with organizational policies and applicable standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • For perioperative anesthesia assignments, apply aseptic technique and use specialized anesthesia equipment and supplies.
  • Follow standards and recommended practices for the perioperative setting and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Provide anesthesia equipment and supplies based on identified needs in a timely, efficient, and safe manner.
  • Assist anesthesia personnel with administration of general, spinal, and regional anesthesia.
  • Set up invasive monitoring lines as requested by anesthesia personnel.
  • Under the direction of anesthesia personnel, run point-of-care laboratory tests and diagnostics and complete required point-of-care documentation.
  • Assist anesthesia staff during anesthesia emergencies and trauma cases, including operating-room preparation, line placement, blood handling, laboratory draws, and patient positioning.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment used to deliver anesthesia care.
  • Receive, sort, decontaminate, and clean reusable anesthesia equipment.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of anesthesia supplies in departmental service areas.
  • Position patients according to operating-room policy and safely transport them postoperatively to the post-anesthesia care unit or another unit.
  • Communicate patient-condition information to anesthesia personnel and other healthcare team members.
  • Report to duty on time, follow break and lunch policies, and complete assigned duties efficiently and promptly.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
  • Use supplies efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized unit.

Florida cancer centre opens 31,000 sq ft St Petersburg facility with on-site imaging

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging. The facility offers advanced treatments including bispecific therapies and clinical trial participation, with plans to expand outpatient cell therapy programmes. Six board-certified medical oncologists and haematologists, supported by four advanced practice practitioners, provide care through a collaborative, patient-centred model. The opening represents a hospital-specialty collaboration aimed at bringing complex therapies closer to patients' homes.
