Responsibilities:
In partnership with the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (EDA) and Iowa Insurance Division’s (IID) Insure Your Future program, EMC’s goal is to encourage career exploration and professional skills development by providing interns a chance to rotate through a variety of experiences across the organization. In addition to real world experience, interns will enjoy opportunities to meet, network and develop leadership skills through a series of four leadership development sessions facilitated by the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
This internship opportunity is a 12 week program focused on exposing interns to EMC’s various business units and accelerating the development of professional skills though claims organizations, active networking, and relationship-building. We are actively looking for candidates that have a passion for continuous learning and exploring new roles in the insurance industry.
This internship opportunity offers exciting opportunities for business exposure and individual mentoring. Examples of functional areas may include: Underwriting, Claims; Innovation, Marketing; Product Management, Operations and more.
Essential Functions:
Summer paid internship working with EMC’s branch and corporate claims departments
Assists the claims team in the investigation, negotiation and disposition of minor multi-line claims
Utilizes information to develop meaningful data insights using Business Intelligence (BI) tools
Partners with key business stakeholders in Claims to gather information and requirements for data analysis and reporting
Learns EMC culture, business processes and products
Gains an understanding of the insurance claims process
Gains an understanding of the insurance industry
Education & Experience:
Business major, preferably in insurance, marketing or finance
College freshman, and/or students that have most recently completed their sophomore year
Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (preferred)
Demonstrated leadership with community or school organizations and/or through work experience
Must be in or be willing to relocate to the Des Moines metro area for programming events
Interest in property casualty insurance career
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Good personal computer knowledge
Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
