  • A high school diploma or equivalent and state-specific training required for the position.
  • Valid continuing education credits as required by the state, if applicable.
  • At least one year of experience.
  • Knowledge of the Medication Observation Record.
  • Effective communication with management, associates, residents, family members, and outside contacts.
  • Clerical and typing skills, including typing, data entry, and filing.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Ability to work safely and alertly.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Compliance with universal precautions, infection control guidelines, OSHA regulations for infectious and potentially infectious waste, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
  • Disclosure of any medication that could impair safe or competent job performance.
Responsibilities
  • Check the six rights of medication administration three times: when removing medication from the cart or cabinet, immediately before assisting with medication, and immediately after assisting with medication.
  • Assist residents with medications according to their Medication Observation Record.
  • Document accurately on the Medication Observation Record when medication is taken, given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, or returned.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, organized medication cart or cabinet and restock it as needed.
  • Provide treatments required by each resident’s individual service plan.
  • Promote and protect residents’ rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
  • Answer and respond immediately to resident calls.
  • Respect residents’ right to refuse medication or treatment.
  • Explain the medication being given and why before assisting with or administering it.
  • Observe residents for adverse medication reactions and immediately report them to the DRC or supervisor.
  • Report all medication errors honestly and immediately.
  • Seek immediate assistance or advice from a supervisor when there are doubts or questions about medications or treatments.
  • Respond to on-the-job injuries according to policy.
  • Notify the supervisor of concerns or questions raised by residents’ family members.
  • Demonstrate respectful behavior toward residents, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform specific duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Attend required community meetings and participate in Life Enrichment activities when able.
  • Complete required courses through HRA University.
  • Report a missing person using the Safe Return program or equivalent.
  • Help maintain a safe and secure environment for community residents.
  • Perform required duties promptly and on a regular, predictable basis.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a long-term care community or geriatric nursing.
  • Experience in emergency care and first aid.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook software.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
  • Passion for working with and around senior citizens.
