Requirements
  • Proven experience leading complex, distributed technology initiatives, particularly within store systems or retail technology.
  • Deep understanding of POS infrastructure, including hardware integrations (PinPads, Scanners, Safes, Cash Drawers, Money Orders).
  • Experience with PinPad certifications and hardware compliance processes.
  • Familiarity with retail and cost accounting systems is a strong plus.
  • Track record of managing vendors, driving third-party partnerships, and aligning technology execution with business outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to influence across organizational levels.
  • Proven expertise in architecting scalable Windows/Web applications and APIs, with a strong focus on operational reliability in enterprise environments.
  • 10+ years of experience in application development, including roles as Senior Engineer, Technical Lead, and Architect.
  • Deep development proficiency in Java, Node.js, C/C++, React, and React Native; experience with ElectronJS is a plus.
  • Extensive background in cloud-native architectures, with 5+ years of hands-on AWS experience (Lambda, Kinesis, Kafka, Step Functions, EC2, ECS).
  • Strong command of modern database systems: MongoDB, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, Aurora PostgreSQL, Redis.
  • 5+ years of front-end and mobile development expertise using React, React Native, with a focus on performance and scalability.
  • 8+ years leading engineering teams, with direct experience managing project delivery, team performance, and vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage hybrid resource models, including in-house, offshore, and contractor teams in dynamic environments.
  • Skilled in establishing operational support models, including incident response, change control, and production monitoring.
  • Deep understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines (Docker), microservices, cloud-native design, and asynchronous processing.
  • Agile/Scrum practitioner with strong collaboration and planning capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead through influence and inspire technical teams.
  • 3+ years as an influential individual contributor, leading by example and driving engineering best practices.
  • Working knowledge of public cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • 3+ years of experience in data governance, security controls, PCI compliance, data lineage, and monitoring in enterprise environments.
  • Broad and current knowledge of software engineering principles, advanced architecture patterns, and industry-leading frameworks and technologies.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of innovative store technologies across multiple workstreams, integrating in-house, third-party, and legacy systems.
  • Drive execution across cross-functional teams, aligning sprint goals with long-term product roadmaps.
  • Architect scalable, reliable POS solutions with a focus on uptime, associate usability, and seamless integration across internal and external platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, product owners, and enterprise partners to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with architectural strategy.
  • Prioritize workloads, remove blockers, and communicate status, risks, and decisions effectively to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Manage onshore and offshore teams, owning performance across multiple development PODs.
  • Recruit, coach, and evaluate team members, setting clear goals and driving accountability.

99-year-old 7-Eleven closing 645 stores as chain shifts to food-focused format

7-Eleven plans to close 645 convenience stores in 2026 as part of an ongoing portfolio optimisation strategy. The closures follow more than 600 location shutdowns in 2024 and 2025 combined, representing part of a broader business transformation. The 99-year-old chain is shifting from a traditional convenience store model to a food-focused format with higher-quality prepared foods and beverages. Some locations will be converted to wholesale fuel stores, which aren't included in the company's store count. The closures target underperforming locations affected by inflation, weaker traffic and shifting consumer behaviour. 7-Eleven operates over 13,000 stores across North America and is eyeing a 2027 IPO whilst simultaneously opening new large-format, food-focused locations.
