  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program or specialized courses in Retail Management or equivalent; alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Basic accounting experience is required.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Experience with cash registers and related processes and procedures, including bank deposits and summary reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work within a team environment to provide direction, resolve conflict, and ensure appropriate use of donations.
  • Organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Time management skills and the ability to delegate effectively.
  • Experience performing administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work in a compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental manner.
  • Familiarity with cash handling, pricing, sorting procedures, product display, and promotion guidelines.
  • Ability to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks satisfactory to The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and frequently twist, bend, crouch, and reach.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 29 pounds regularly.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including weekdays and Saturdays.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the safety of customers, staff, and volunteers in the store.
  • Assist with planning store layouts and ensuring the store is attractive.
  • Handle customer concerns or complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Support the Store Manager or Corps Officer in ensuring cash operations follow Salvation Army policies and procedures and nightly deposits are secure.
  • Oversee inventory control by ensuring donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriately.
  • Provide direction and support to staff in the absence of the Store Manager or Corps Officer.
  • Participate in interviews and hiring.
  • Provide orientation and training and feedback for staff performance management in compliance with divisional and territorial standards.
  • Assist in planning store sales, promotions, and auctions.
  • Plan staff schedules, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  • Sort, price, and stock merchandise.
  • Ensure staff are aware of emergency procedures and prepared to implement them when necessary.
  • Follow proper procedures for workplace injuries or illnesses and conduct incident investigations as applicable.
  • Handle small amounts of cash when authorized.
  • Attend meetings requiring travel.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of prior related retail store experience, specifically in secondhand merchandise, is preferred.
  • Experience with systems or programs specific to The Salvation Army is an asset.
