Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. is preferred
  • Graduate from University and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
  • For those with Hull backgrounds: B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. is preferred
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software
  • Exposed to Finite Element Method (course work or supervised research)
  • Professional or chartered engineer license
  • At least ten (10) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society; or two (2) years as an Engineer II.
  • For those with Machinery backgrounds: B.S. degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or other related disciplines
  • At least ten (10) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society; or two (2) years as an Engineer II.
  • Seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license.
Responsibilities
  • Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned. Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high-quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary.
  • Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility. Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
  • Participates in the development and changes of Rules. Advises assigned staff in matters related to the application of Rules and Regulations.
  • Prepares written responses to clients in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.
  • Monitors the performance, development potential, and training needs of engineers assigned. Keeps management informed of manpower needs.
  • Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids, and other presentation materials.
