Requirements
  • Formal training beyond High School of 6 months -1 year with minimum 6 months’ work experience - or equivalent combination.
  • Must be bilingual; fluent (reading/speaking) in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to teach effectively in informal settings and communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Willingness to travel throughout NYC and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective communication within the team.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with community members and agency partners.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in recruiting participants and community partners.
  • Work with groups of limited resource participants in community-based agencies, schools and other institutions.
  • Teach foods, nutrition and health, food safety and budgeting using developed educational materials.
  • Facilitate the development of skills of adults, graduating a minimum of 75% of program participants.
  • Utilize, maintain and demonstrate appropriate use of educational material and lesson plans necessary to conduct sessions.
  • Maintain liaison with agency partners and volunteers who support program activities.
  • Participate individually and as a member of a team(s) in program planning and development activities, providing input on local /participant needs.
  • Provide feedback on program participant’s needs; assist in planning educational activities to meet program objectives within the context of participant needs.
  • Report on participant progress and outcomes.
  • Obtain, document, compile and maintain program reports.
  • Work with site leaders and senior community educators to utilize participant data to evaluate, assess and plan for the future of program /participant involvement.
  • Participate in development and testing of educational materials, strategies and evaluation tools.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associates degree in nutrition.
  • Familiarity with NYC neighborhoods and transportation.
