Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in software quality assurance, including at least 1 year of hands-on testing of large language model-based or artificial intelligence/machine learning-powered features.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance principles, test case creation and documentation, and best practices for deterministic and non-deterministic systems.
  • Hands-on experience with large language model tooling and concepts, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation systems, evaluation frameworks such as Promptfoo, Braintrust, LangSmith, DeepEval, Ragas, and OpenAI Evals, and large language model application programming interfaces such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
  • Experience designing automated qualitative evaluation approaches, including large-language-model-as-judge, rubric-based scoring, semantic similarity checks, and golden dataset regression testing.
  • Proficiency with test automation tools, particularly Playwright.
  • Strong SQL skills for data validation, test data creation, and verifying data integrity across systems.
  • Familiarity with token usage, latency profiling, and cost monitoring as quality signals.
Responsibilities
  • Design and execute test strategies for large-language-model-powered features, including prompt regression testing, output evaluation, and hallucination detection.
  • Build and maintain automated evaluation pipelines, including evaluation sets, golden datasets, and large-language-model-as-judge frameworks, to detect quality regressions in non-deterministic outputs.
  • Perform black-box and exploratory testing of MDCalc's artificial intelligence features across web and mobile, focusing on clinical accuracy, safety, and edge cases.
  • Define quality metrics for artificial intelligence outputs, including accuracy, faithfulness, relevance, safety, latency, and cost, and establish release-readiness thresholds.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, machine learning/artificial intelligence engineers, and clinical reviewers to define quality criteria for artificial intelligence responses.
  • Investigate and triage artificial intelligence failure modes, distinguishing model issues, prompt issues, retrieval issues, and integration bugs.
  • Participate in team discussions by providing feedback on testability, risks, prompt design, and guardrails.
  • Help develop quality assurance strategies to expand testing capacity, automation, and evaluation coverage as the artificial intelligence product surface grows.

MDCalc provides clinical decision support tools designed for healthcare settings. Its platform offers a suite of medical calculators and diagnostic/prognostic algorithms that integrate directly with Electronic Health Records (EHRs), helping clinicians make faster, more accurate treatment decisions. The product works as cloud-based calculators and analytics that update across devices and feed usage data back to institutions for insights, with access typically via a subscription model for healthcare organizations and individual practitioners. MDCalc differentiates itself by its extensive adoption—used by more than 80% of U.S. physicians—its seamless EHR integration, and its analytics that track calculator usage and quality metrics to support research and best practices. The company’s goal is to improve clinician efficiency, patient outcomes, and care quality by embedding reliable decision-support tools into everyday clinical workflows.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • MDCalc launched a commercial division in 2023, expanding life-sciences revenue beyond subscriptions.
  • Swarna Chatterjee joined from Pfizer and Doximity, adding enterprise sales and pharma monetization expertise.
  • 2026 product updates and quality ratings deepen engagement and reinforce evidence-based leadership.

What critics are saying

  • OpenEvidence and Vera Health bundle calculators with AI answers, weakening MDCalc's standalone moat.
  • MDCalc's quality ratings spotlight weak calculators, inviting clinician scrutiny and liability concerns.
  • If pharma-funded commercial content outruns clinical trust, MDCalc's brand becomes unusable.

What makes MDCalc unique

  • MDCalc's 800-plus calculators still anchor bedside workflow across U.S. clinicians in 2026.
  • Its 2026 quality-rating system turns calculator trust into a branded product advantage.
  • EHR-linked access through MDCalc for EHR keeps scores inside clinician workflow.
