Users play GTA 5 in Chrome browser, it goes viral and gets shut down. Published: Oct 6, 2026 1:21 PM ET Last updated: Oct 6, 2026 1:21 PM ET On 5 October, a video went viral on social media showing GTA 5 running locally inside Google Chrome at 60 FPS without a massive 100GB download. This was done by independent developers who used AI tools and previously leaked source code to compile the game engine into WebAssembly (WASM). This allowed them to load chunks of data directly in a browser. However, this was unofficial and potentially violated intellectual property laws. Consequently, the site hosting GTA 5 in a browser was taken down and is no longer operational. How were developers playing GTA 5 in a browser? The developers compiled the GTA 5 engine into a WebAssembly. This is a web standard that enables complex applications to run inside browsers such as Chrome. The port was developed using chunks of GTA 5's leaked source code. This code was run through AI tools torecompile the massive PC build into what a web browser could interpret. The viral video attracted considerable attention as it meant that users may no longer have to download the standard 100GB game files. The browser had compressed the initial core data to roughly 700MB. However, the website only remained active for a few hours. Hosting provider Cloudflare immediately intervened because of Rockstar's intellectual property rights and the site's alleged use of leaked source code without authorization. When users visited the website, they saw Cloudflare Error 1014 before the domain was entirely replaced with a random advertisement. Intellectual property concerns. After the site was blocked, the creator allegedly asked users on social media, "Who wants the source code?". Anyone with the code can launch their own private offline browser-based sandbox. Rockstar's legal team cannot delete files from private computers. If source code becomes decentralized, it is open to modification by the public. People will not just share the base game, but will distribute versions of it with custom maps and optimized compression layers. Piracy is no longer a static concept. It is an open-source project operating independently of original creators.
GTA 6 new details revealed - Lucia's backstory, modern GTA satire, immersive open world & more. Gaming enthusiast covering the stories behind the games Khel Now love. Published at: October 5, 2026 at 2:36 AM Modified at: October 5, 2026 at 2:36 AM (Courtesy: Rockstar Games) The game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. New insights and information are out from the GTA 6 LOVE Magazine issue, which reveals more details about the characters, open world, and modern take on GTA. The developers are heavily focusing on characters' depth, realistic world-building, immersion, and a modern take on American culture. Rockstar wants players to become fully immersed in the world of Leonida and Vice City. Let's check out some more details in this article. Lucia was designed to rival Arthur Morgan & Niko Bellic. One of the biggest priorities of Rockstar's devs was to create a protagonist that could match the similar impact of previous characters like Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2 and Niko Bellic from GTA 4. Lucia was written as a determined woman with an immigrant background. She is focused on building a better life despite the constant struggles and obstacles. The developers have imagined her as someone raised around Newark, New Jersey, near Liberty City. Jason & Lucia's crime story. Jason, her partner in crime, is also designed to complement her in the GTA 6 story. This duo relationship will feature a constant push-and-pull dynamic as they navigate the dangerous life in Leonida. His military background is not intended to serve as a political message. The circumstances will push him towards criminal activities, drug trafficking, bank robbery and more. Rockstar conducted extensive Florida research. Rockstar Games wanted to create an authentic version of Vice City and the wider Leonida region in GTA 6. For this, they have spent years on research. The developers travelled across Miami, surrounding towns, the Florida Keys, and rarely visited areas by tourists. The team also spoke with local police, locals and people involved in criminal activities and gangs. Conclusion. Rockstar Games is also heavily focusing on background content, radio shows, advertisements, pedestrian conversations, and environmental storytelling. They want the open-world to feel more alive and immersive. GTA 6 satire will also target modern society, ranging from conspiracy theories to internet culture and the sometimes-improbable ways people interact with everyday experiences. However, Rockstar says it will focus on creating fictional versions of these modern trends, rather than simply incorporating real-world viral ideas into the game. Who are the main characters in GTA 6? How did Rockstar research the world of GTA 6? What kind of satire will GTA 6 feature? Rockstar's co-founder is developing A sci-fi video game about rogue AI. The Rockstar Alum Is Also Developing An Open-World Comedy Game. Story Highlight * Dan Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games, is developing two new games at his media company. * The first project is an open-world comedy that will be revealed in the next few months. * The second game will be a dystopian sci-fi IP about a rogue AI that gains sentience. GTA 6 is finally set to launch worldwide next month, and hype for the title is through the roof. Rockstar Games has set lofty standards for the upcoming open-world game, saying that it aims to overdeliver on fan expectations. While most players expect GTA 6 to be a high-quality product, the upcoming title will be the first game in the storied franchise not involving Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, who left the company in 2020. As it turns out, Houser's studio is working on a couple of very interesting projects, including one about AI. Why it matters: Unlike Mindseye, which was an unoptimised mess created by Leslie Benzies to mimic GTA, these projects from Dan Houser sound like original IPs that venture into new pastures instead of rehashing what worked before. In an interview with Variety, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser has revealed that his media company is working on two new games, and one of these titles will deal with a sentient AI gone rogue. Houser explained that the project will be a dystopian sci-fi title about an AI that discovers sentience after the development of a video game goes wrong. The other (title) is a dystopian sci-fi about a video game development gone very wrong, and about a rogue AI that discovered sentience. The AI was made by two people who hated each other, and as a result, it ends up hating itself. The former Rockstar head's entertainment studio, Absurd Ventures, is developing both projects, with the other one being an open-world comedy. The GTA alum didn't give any timeline on the AI title, but did reveal that the open-world game will be showcased in the next few months. According to Dan Houser, the project will lean heavily into the comedy aspect while delving into character memory. Considering how the Rockstar founder was the lead writer on most GTA games, and is being supported by other franchise veterans like Lazlow Jones and Michael Unsworth, these new titles have every chance to perform better than Leslie Benzies' open-world flop Mindseye. Latest Updates Do you think the new games developed by Dan Houser will be successful? Are you excited about the interesting premise of both projects? Miami Heat rebrands for GTA 6 Vice City takeover game. The Miami Heat will temporarily rebrand as Vice City for its Nov. 18 home game against the Milwaukee Bucks, staging a promotional takeover one day before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Key points * The Miami Heat will play under the Vice City name on Nov. 18 against the Milwaukee Bucks. * The game takes place at Kaseya Center one day before Grand Theft Auto 6 releases on Nov. 19. * The event includes a custom hardwood court design, exclusive uniforms, and themed apparel. * ESPN will televise the game nationally at 7 p.m. Eastern, alongside local South Florida broadcast on Local 10. The one-night event brings Rockstar Games' fictional Florida setting directly into the National Basketball Association. Dubbed "A Night in Vice City," the matchup at Kaseya Center will feature a custom court floor, special player uniforms, and game-night activations tied to the upcoming video game release. Game schedule and broadcast details. The Nov. 18 game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. Eastern at Kaseya Center in downtown Miami. ESPN will televise the game nationally across the United States, while Local 10 will broadcast the matchup locally in the South Florida market. The timing places the promotional takeover on the eve of the Nov. 19 launch for GTA 6, aligning the NBA regular-season schedule with Rockstar's launch calendar. Tickets for the single-night event are currently available through Ticketmaster. Court redesign and custom uniforms. For the Bucks matchup, the Heat will abandon its standard home branding in favor of the Vice City identity. Team officials confirmed that workers will install a custom hardwood court specifically manufactured for the game. Neither the full court layout nor the exact graphics have been publicly revealed. The players will wear a redesigned uniform created specifically for the collaboration, documented on the Heat Vice City uniform collection page on the league website. While the Miami franchise previously wore retro-themed "Vice" alternate jerseys between 2017 and 2021, this project marks the first official commercial partnership between the franchise and the Grand Theft Auto video game series. Themed merchandise and arena signage. Rockstar and the franchise have already released a collaborative apparel line through the official Miami Heat Store. The collection incorporates visual elements from the fictional city, including the classic neon script logo and graphic T-shirts displaying the phrase "CALL 1-999-VICECITY." Team retail representatives confirmed that additional apparel pieces will arrive in the store closer to tipoff. Physical promotion began at Kaseya Center last month, when venue operators mounted a lit "Welcome to Vice City" display outside the arena. The retail push follows a broader commercial rollout for GTA 6 merchandise, which has seen collaborative print releases and promotional gear sell out within minutes of hitting digital storefronts. Rockstar's real-world promotional push. Transforming an active NBA arena into a fictional setting reflects an aggressive physical marketing push by parent company Take-Two Interactive. Earlier in the marketing cycle, sustained player interest in GTA 6 prompted widespread online speculation over how the developer would handle local promotional tie-ins across South Florida. The Nov. 18 game against Milwaukee serves as the final high-profile promotional event ahead of the worldwide retail launch on Nov. 19. Team and league representatives have not announced whether the Vice City court or uniforms will make any subsequent appearances later in the 2026-27 NBA season. GTA 6 HUD & UI icons unpacked: health, stamina, focus & more details. Grand Terror Act 6 is ready to debut on November 19, 2026, and Rockstar has packed it with a complete overhaul of the in-game interface. The new set of GTA 6 icons will guide players through all of the game's fresh features, from dual protagonists to a dynamic wanted system. Cash symbols and security. The BUCKME icon signals money stored in the in-game bank account, a safe reserve that doesn't risk loss from arrests or deaths. Or close to it, the Cash Wallet icon marks the cash you carry in hand, capped at $20,000. Unlike the bank, this amount can disappear if you're taken into action or busted. Vitals and physical readiness. GTA 6 owns a familiar trio of bar-type indicators. The Health icon sits beside the health bar and visually tracks your hit points. Stamina replaces the old speedometer, draining whenever you sprint, cycle, or perform similar exertions. For underwater adventures, the Oxygen icon and bar appear when you're equipped with a scuba tank and shrink the longer you stay submerged. Focus, deeds, and emergency states. When you activate the new focus mode, the Focus icon lights up and couples with a dedicated bar. This mode enhances precision, lets you spot weak points, and offers a time-slow function for shooting enemies. Deed icons signal your moral choices: Good Deed triggers a boost to your criminal profile when you perform friendly actions; Neutral Deed shows when your actions currently have no profile impact; Violent Deed updates the violent facet of the profile; and Psycho Deed signals reckless aggression, shrinking the profile. Star-Based wanted system. The wanted level is now encoded through a star system; the Wanted Star Level icon reflects how many stars you have, quickly indicating whether you're low-profile or a serious threat. Profiling icons and policing intelligence. To debrief the authorities, Rockstar introduced a suite of profiling symbols. The CCTV Profiling icon shows the evidence you've thrown up on camera; Weapon Profiling flags the weapon used in an incident. Couple Profiling lets police know that a duo of protagonists are involved. Appearance Marker applies when a single character - either Joseph or Lucia - is linked. Clothing Profiling and Vehicle Profiling reveal the attire and vehicle used during a crime. These icons were all showcased in the Netflix Extended Look, offering a polished, user-friendly map of everything that governs a GTA 6 session. As more gameplay footage surfaces, additional elements may expand the interface, but the current visual cues provide a comprehensive toolkit for navigating the new cinematic action.
